lice or something else

Am looking after a shetland pony that has loads of louse eggs but cant see anything moving. He has rubbed a great bald patch and the hair can just be peeled away and has yellow pus on the roots. Does this happen with louse infestation or could it be something else like mange ?

It sounds like he has lice as well as rain scald. Just cos you cant see the adults, they must be there to lay the eggs.

I would recommend getting the vet out to be sure and to start an appropriate treatment.

treat for lice to be on the safe side wash in an insectidetal shampoo then apply spot on from the vets! but yes it does sound like them if you have eggs you must have a host that has laid them!
