My Dartmoor foal has brought with him a lice problem, he was deloused but looks like didn't get them all and now has passed on to my other pony. I've been told there is an excellent treatment which is a bit like spot on for dogs, ie you just apply to one spot on their rump or wherever and it works in the same way. Anyone know what this is? All they could remember is that it starts with D!!

The Dectomax 'pour on' (which isn't licenced for horses),. is the one your friend is probably thinking of. I use it on my boy and just phone the vets and tell them what i'm doing. My OH is a farmer so he always has some in for the cattle.

2nd Dectomax, I got it from vets off license. Its Ivermectin based so I wouldn't worm with ivermectin for 6 weeks post treatment but it works fab for lice.

There seems to be so many lice problems this year. My little 9mo filly has had them - we treated with the pour on Dectomax which the vet came out a did for us... a thick liquid from forelock to top of tail along the spine. Cost about £10. Then 2weeks later I deosected her - which you can get from farm supplies, it's a solution you mix part and part water and spray or sponge on. Then a week later I nit combed and dermoline'd her.
I got a bit obsessed, but I think *touch wood* they're all gone!

We've also had lice this year! I rung the vets and they prescribed some lotion which was cheaper than buying anything I could find on the market of similar effect! All 3 treated, then treated again 2 weeks later. Easy-peasy job done :)

Tinsel Trouble, I got Deosect from Vetscriptions and didn't need a prescrition. Much cheeper that getting it from the vet
