Lice???

Ok, sio found lice on my guys last night. I have never come across them before! What is the best treatment for them? Would this explain why their coats are really scurfy, no matter how much they are brushed?

I'm having the same problem, it's horrible! One of mine has a bald patch and scurfy. No live lice at the moment but s**t loads of eggs???!!
I used Coopers fly spray on them and wormed them with Ivermectin. Gave one a bath with an insecticide shampoo last week to see if it makes any difference. I have never had the problem before but their coats were so thick and long this winter. My big horse was clipped out and hasn't had them, even though she was turned out with them?
 
Yep, sounds familiar - same time every year, just when they're changing coat and the weather starts to warm up. I've never seen them on 4 of mine, but the 5th, a retired 29yo mare who gets the most long and shaggy winter coat - gets them each year without fail. Two treatments of Coopers a week apart always does the trick and I never see them again until the same time next year.

Louse Powder actually applied onto horses seems in my experience to be useless. However, I do use the powder to apply to all rugs, and I leave it on the rugs before they go into storage for the summer.
 
I think its proper name is Coopers Fly Repellant. It costs about £22 and comes in a tall mainly green box. It's not a fly spray - you need to bath the horse in it (it comes with a sponge). It's bound to be somewhere on line, but I haven't looked. It's a very well known product though - most tack shops ought to be familiar with it.
