Hi my friends horses have lice i have tried to help her but nothing his working we have bathed them in dermoline medicated shampoo witch says on it for lice. We have also sprayed them with deocsect and worming we have also watched grooming kits rugs head collars etc in vercon s nothing is shifting. Can anybody thing of anything else witch is good?
 
as they have still got lice and nothing is working I would contact the vet and ask for something to treat them with. My friends filly has lice and has been given a liquid from the vets that has to be diluted and applied all over. If the horses have got exceptionally long coats can you not clip them and then treat for lice. Frontline is supposed to be good but is quite expensive. You could also try coopers fly repellent but as the deosect hasn't worked so far then I would just get in touch with the vet. Regarding the wormer did you double dose with an ivermectin one? as you need to double dose to get rid of lice.
 
we have had a lice problem at work that has just cleared, we clipped them and doused them in louse powder, lice move too where ever there is hair so we clipped it all off so we could see if there was any left. they had ivermectin injections from the vet and the sores were bathed with hibi scrub, but the powder did the best job!!
 
I've heard that lice have been a real problem this year - I know of an equine charity that has had a wide spread lice infestation. Wonder whether it is linked to the cold winter that we've had?
We always used to use Gold Label louse powder when I was a kid but I think Frontline is one of the best treatments out there. From what I've heard, Deosect isn't doing the trick.
 
We have just got a little shettie mare yesterday, she is in a terrible state, crawling with lice amongst other problems. The vet came to see her 1st thing this morning, he has given her an injection which he said is not licenced for use in horses but it has been tested on them, he said its licenced for and very effective in cattle, and in his opinion would be the best thing for her. Really sorry i can't remember what it's called but he said it treats lice and roundworm in cattle. We are also getting her some dermoline shampoo, which he said that along with he injection is the best way to go with our new pony.
 
i was told to use spot on treatment which is meant for cows and sheep and imo is the only thing other than turning to vet that works:)
although i did have some success with the dermoline (i think) shampoo although have to use correct strength and leave it for awhile and i think you need to repeat to kill eggs etc :)
 
Cooper FR Plus and do exactly what it tells you to do on the instructions on a regular basis to break the cycle, all horses will need to be done.

For small pony/shetties etc with thick coats, get them clipped and treat them with above.

Dispose of bedding, disinfect stables/grooming kits/tack etc
