I think my horse may have caught lice. Could someone please tell me the most effective way of getting rid of them, and when treatment should be repeated so it won't happen again. Many thanks

we use flypor. its actually for cows, but is very effective. (the spot on is too harsh and can burn horses.)

you will need to get it from the vet if you dont own cows. the average horse is about 40 mls spread along the crest and spine and left to soak in. repeated 2 weeks later.

you need to wear gloves and be carefull not to get any on your skin. i use a syringe to apply... less waste and more accurate. ;)

ets: you cannot treat so that it wont ever return... they can and will most likely get lice again... and again... and again! :D

Worm with an Ivermectin based wormer, that will kill any lice and will still be in the blood stream long enough to kill any lice that hatch over the next few days after worming.

Coopers fly repellent plus. Needs two treatments a couple of weeks apart but will clear it up no bother and can be bought from the feed shop :)

Lice are horrendous. If you go down the old fashioned route of powdering you'll still be doing it in a year's time!!

My vet gave (I say gave - it cost me a small fortune!) Pour On for cattle. It worked wonders.
