Horse in our grass livery field has lice! Mine is unrugged and rarely gets too close to the poor old lad. Do I need to worry?

When I was on herd turnout some years back they threw a little cob straight from the dealers in with the herd - and she came with friends!

We had to clip her out to get deosect on, but not every horse got them. If you start to spot odd bald patches you will find they've jumped ship....

I’d treat with Duosect anyway, mine had it (went to the vet hospital overnight and came back with lice!) and we treated the horses he shared a paddock with x

Thank you. Lady whose horse it is is happy to share the fresh new bottle of respect she’s had to buy! Kind of her. Vet also prescribed antibiotics. He has no wounds so I’m not sure why.

Just going through this just now! All 5 in the field, including the culprit, have been treated with 2 rounds of Deosect 2 weeks apart as per vet advice and fingers crossed it looks like we’ve beaten it!

I just googled antibiotics for lice, because I was thiinking the vet was perhaps being a bit free and easy with precious antibiotics and risking resistance for no good reason, I found this, so I eat my thoughts and apologise to your vet!
