i bought my horse one of these and instead of licking it and it gradually going down in size he just put his teeth around it, bit it in half and ate the whole thing!!! i have tried every flavour they do...i even gave him cherry the other day thinking that no horse would want to eat a massive blob of cherry in one go...it didnt put him off at all and the whole thing was gone in about 5 mins! does anyone else have this problem or is it just my greedy chap?!!

Nope, not just your horse! lol
I have given up on them now, as the ponies just eat them! Have tried every type known to man & every type of holder - LBO can outfox every single one & will turn his head sideways or even upside down to get at them & bypass the holder!

My eldest daughter's pony could polish off an entire likit in about 5 minutes but LBO only ever eats half of them, once he has figured out how to defeat the holder & bite chunks of the lick, he loses interest in the whole thing & wants a new one!

My horse went from being terrified of his Lickit in its groovy purple holder and hiding at the back of his stable to giving himself a massive sugar rush by gobbling the thing down in one go. I don't bother with them any more. A horse ball with treats in lasts far longer.

Yup- they're more chewits to my girl than lickits! Tried the Horslyx tubs and she has just managed to devour a 5kg one in a week (rather than the three they're supposed to take!) She is on box rest, so has plenty spare time to attack it I guess!

So the next attempt is the himalayan rock salt lick- she won't be able to chew it like a lickit (at least I hope not or it'll be a horrendous dentist bill!!

) and it shouldn't dissolve as quickly as the Horslyx ones but should still keep her busy while cooped up recuperating. Fingers crossed!

No my boy is the same, opens his mouth as wide as he can and then lets it fall in and bites it in half. There is another horse at our yard who can finishe a likit in the time it takes you to walk out of the stable and close the door. He is a big horse and can almost get the whole thing in his mouth!

Yeah, mine are dreadful with lickits too. One of mine especially will NOT leave the lick alone until its all gone. He always manages to smash it to pieces somehow, even though I have the 2 different holders (the globe thing which spins round, and the standard hanging one). They absolutely go nuts for the cherry and banana ones! The 2 most unlikely ones I though. And usually end up with bright red or yellow all round their mouths.....

I don't bother with them anymore as they would last all of 5 mins.

My horse would stamp on them until bits broke off then he would crunch them up!

Merlin wont touch the hymalayan rock salt, thinks it is too dangerous... but beware of horselyx combined with boxrest, soooooooo much sugar. Not to mention sticky horsey.

Have had a green minty rockies salt lick for months now and he hasnt touched it, moved yards and its suddenly nice!!!

Lickits are a con, I am sure they make them just small enough to be accomodated by a set of horsey size jaws!!! Two bites and its gone!!!

It's quite funny really because she's a dark bay, you don't notice the stickiness until it's too late- I think she's caught out each and every person on the yard with her sticky nose!

Her lovely white socks go a fantastic shade of orange/brown as well from where she's dribbled/rubbed her nose on them!

I've got a new one but it will hopefully only go in for short periods as a treat. We'll see if she goes near the rock salt- hopefully she will. The sugar in the horslyx doesn't sem to have made her fizzy at all. She's surprising calm for being stuck on box rest. Maybe all my grovelling with carrots is getting through to her that I'm not just being mean for no reason?!

The original molasses ones were hideously messy but lasted much longer. Asti has eaten a whole likit in 2 mins 45 seconds. Does she hold the record?

So they are now very rare treats as they don't last long enough and are a bit fattening for already podgy horses.

The only one she won't touch is the electrolyte one!

I have finally outfoxed Chancer (almost). He has the tongue twister which he can get through in a day. I have now got the ball type that hangs from the ceiling. I have put it up at head height and well away from the wall. He does bash his head on it occasionally but doesn't bother him. The big lickit on top of the ball has lasted a long time and the little lickits had lasted several days until the little git worked out how to get them out - still don't know how. Once on the floor they were gone in seconds.

ha ha! that made me really laugh reading all the comments...i am so glad it is not just my greedy boy and that it seems they all master the lickit in one gulp!!!
i tried a big rock salt lick, thinking there was no way he could get his jaws around that, and then i was horrified to hear all this clumping and banging in the stable, ran to the door and he was scratching his bum on it!!! at least he wasnt chocking on it i guess!!!
does the horse ball work then? maybe i wil try this...r there any other foodie toys that are good?

Asti has the tongue twister - lasts 5 mins... the ball that hangs, and a normal likit holder.

If you hang the normal one or the ball, away from walls - she won't touch them at all. It has to be against a wall so she can woof them down, or she won't play and they get wasted!

My horse loves them especially the banana flavour & the Mint his teeth usually have it all stuck in them for ages after. He Finished this 1 off in about 5 mins. OH put rubber tubing round the rope coz the little sod chewed through the rope.

All the horse i have had finish them i les than 10 minutes. But my 12hh welsh can finish one in under 5minutes and she is tiny!
there so hard to ope as well getting all the plastic of...its not worth it.

We should have a competition to see which horse eats it the fastest. Mickey gets really annoyed with it moving, he digs his teeth straight in and devours it. I only use the small lickits in the ball now because the big ones last a matter of seconds.

I find that if i put a salt lick or a likit in my ponies stable she ignores it but if its outside one of the other horses stables she'll stand there and lick it for hours til i prise her off and shove her out in the field! Their's always taste much better apparently.

Neither of mine really like lickits, Lady has a Dengie stable lick, she eats about four of these a year at the very most, Fudge can't have these as he jumped on the last one and cut himself on the plastic container
