So I’ve decided to do a thread with our efforts so far. Feed back is accepted and suggestions on activities as well :)

So we have been showing, going out walks inhand, travelling in my friends lorry, crossing bridges and fording rivers and also doing desensitisation work :)

He has also been growing like a weed! He is now 14.2hh at the bum and legs like a supermodel still so more height to go I think o_O

We have a few more shows between now and October and once we have been to the showing champs we have qualified for I will be giving him the rest of the year off from showing and just be suffering winter lol

Showing pics from the bronze medal Welsh Show, inhand work pics As well :)

More in next post :)

Those are cracking photos. He's having a great introduction to being a well adjusted young horse. Bring him to me when he's grown up so I can enjoy the fruits if your hard work. I love youngsters but my bones don't these days.

Thank you :D unfortunately however he’s mine for life ;) he’s going nowhere :) I’m plugging the work in now so as there is very little for him to bounce me off the ground at when he’s bigger :D I don’t bounce as well as I used to either, youngsters are my thing though, love bringing them on, even more than I like competing :)

Thanks everyone he is honestly everything I could have asked for, even though he was bought based of ten minute in a stable before he went in to the auction ring, I just knew I had to bring him home with me :) His attitude to life is amazing.

Oh wow, he is so pretty.
I know nothing about bringing on youngsters but I have benefited enormously from my horse being brought on by an amazing young girl who just showed him everything she could think of. The whole family got on board with it so he was introduced to quads and chainsaws, lorries, bikes, strimmers. You name it, they did it. The result was an amazing little horse who went happily to shows and looked after the mum and daughter when they rode him. And now me !
You already look like you are doing a cracking job BB:)

I’m probably playing with fire posting this lol many people won’t agree with it however it’s a horse ford and many people have their horses at Liberty out riding, he loves my friend and her horse behind her is his field buddy so massive encouragement not to go anywhere but across :)

He was dragging me and it’s a rocky bed and I was going to fall so safer for us both just to let him do his thing without me hanging onto him. I’d already inhand walked my friends older horse across but he wasn’t in that much of a hurry lol ;)

Have I missed how old he is?
He's looking great in the pics - perfect condition, too. A credit to you.

In terms of suggestions for things to do - here goes -
1. Get him used to clippers - start running them next to him while he gets fed, slowly touch him with them, and eventually pretend to clip him.
2. Loading into horse boxes/trailers - always handy.
3. Pole work - helps to give him an awareness of where his limbs are - nothing too physical though for a youngster.
4. Polythene bags - flapping, waving, containing carrots.
5. Bandaging/booting legs.

I'm sure you've done some of these already. :)

He is 15months old :) I bought hi. When he was 6months from the Welsh Cob sales :) Thanks for the suggestions I’m always thinking of things to do with him to keep his brain engaged without doing any serious work for his little joints and body, well young I should say as he’s not little anymore lol :D

He's gorgeous. :D

The most amusing thing that i did with my gelding when he was about that age (maybe 18 months-ish) was to walk him out into the big, wide world and past a field of cows. He hadn't known that they existed before then and he was very confused by them to start with. It was highly amusing. :)

😂 yes sorry, when you knowingly buy a Welsh you absolutely lose the right to moan about them using their intelligence against you!

Are you planning on showing him when he's under saddle, or are you aiming him at something else eventually?

I taught my filly to play football with one of those large gym balls. It was light enough to move with a push from her and she loved to be in charge of controlling it's movement. Mind you, she was a complete doughnut who was easily amused.

I’ve actually got no set plan for him, I’d like to do a bit of everything but we will see what we are liking and what we aren’t. I don’t have the same competition bug that I had ten years ago :) we will have w bit of fun and see where we end up.

Yes I’m sure it will bite me in the butt a few times over the years lol! Had to welshie proof the stable lol ;)

Thanks everyone he’s certainly changed a lot between December and now lol :D
