so i am thinking about working in a horse racing stable and was wondering what it is like ?

are the people nice and friendly or are they stuck up?

also a lot of people have told me the boy that work in stable are really rude and stuff ??

is it a good job to have ??

I suppose everybody is different regarding the stuck up or not question - Different places have different people so don't know how anybody can answer that :)

Was this not asked the other day?

I don' t know about snobby but it is very competitive. The more women the more likely to be a sometimes strained situation to put it mildly. You get that a lot when they start thinking their all that. One day they'll "get that". So keep your head down and look for an older rider that has been around awhile. They should take you under their wing and help you out. If you want to learn you will. Some days may be a struggle but it does get easier. Avoid the snarkiness if possible and just be pleasant but hold your own.

Should add the snarky arrises because of what you get on. It's not like having your own horse and bragging about your accomplishments. Your skills are on display daily. The better you are or in you work for someone that likes to play mind games(oh yeah), you get the good horses. Also the more challenging rides. You can take it in your stride or you can think you're all that. Once you get over yourself you start really becoming a good rider and really start to learn. Ask me how I know? LOL!

It is hard work, you need to be able to take orders and not be offended when someone shouts at you for leaving a fork in the wrong place ;)

For reasons I outlined above. If you take things too personally you may struggle.

I came back from Florida one winter and had a new assistant in NY. I intoduced myself and he laughed and said don't worry I got the instruction manual that goes with you.

But, but, but I was always happy to help people that wanted to learn. You came in with a tude and let's just say I didn't put up with it. One person said the only reason I got on the good horses was because I slept with the boss. This was a guy doing the mouthing and I was not sleeping with the boss. I had just been given a leg up. I proceed to dismount, take off my helmet, and wallop him upsides his head with it. I then went home. Only one of us still had a job the next day. Me.

Seconded! I'm in a temporary job at the moment where the YM/trainer ect are tough but fair, however the other groom is EXACTLY as Terri says, thinks she's 'all that' and that her opinion's gospel  I figure that as long as the boss is happy, I'm happy and just ignore the cowbag, it's only temporary after all :)

I'd also add, don't be a push over! I had to point out the other day that just because the boss was away at a show, I wasn't going to do her (other girl's) work on top of mine, especially as she hasn't learned the word PLEASE yet!
