Lifting offside hind leg out to side

My ex eventer has always made creaky noises in his hamstring
Area. No problem with his flatwork and I don't intend to jump him I Whenever I start to groomhim he tries to turn his head towards his stifle. He wants me to massage the inside of the leg near the patella. Is it a strain or to do with his eventing days.expecting physio visit very soon but would like to know if you have had or have similar symptoms.

Is it possible he is asking from a good scratch. If he is a bit creaky he might find it difficult to reach back to his hind.

Well that could be it! He is stiff on that side sometimes and I can tell when I do carrot stretches. I had an Anglo Arab for 18 years. 28 when he died. When he was 17 he broke his near hind pedal bone. After many months of box rest he recovered well enough to go on competing until he had a fatal accident in the field. After his recovery he always used to do the same with that hind leg.maybe same reason. Neither horse showed or show any lameness, but who knows. I don't. Thank you for that. Maybe I'm over thinking as usual.
