As some of you are aware my horse has now twice suffered with suspensory ligament damage in his left fore. My current insurance company have been fantastic and paid out in full for all vets bills etc - the payments have been prompt and the staff fantastic. Would definitely reinsure with them again - BUT have got the renewal through and they are excluding ligaments and tendons in both front legs. Obviously I was expecting this since my claim has been so large this year, but will other insurance companies not exclude the leg? I don't know how this all works so please need help! Is it worth phoning around to ask or will they all say the same thing?

You'll be asked if the horse has had any other injuries and they will exclude when they find out. If you don't tell them they will find out if anything goes wrong in the future as your vet will tell them - so your insurance will be void. I'd stay where you are, they sound good

I definitely don't want to lie! Just wondered if all insurance companies would automatically exclude or whether some wouldn't exclude but charge me a higher premium?
Might just be wishful thinking on my part then....

If your horse has only injured the one leg you might find some insurance companies will only exclude the one front leg rather than both. Mine did a hind suspensory and my insurance at the time then excluded both hinds for any ligament injuries. I swapped companies and he has only the ijured leg excluded. Might be worth getting some quotes.

My horse was exempt from both front legs once when she broke down but if you have no problems with them for 2 years then you can get your vet to write a note to the insurance and they will include them again - i did this for her front legs and her stifle

You would have to disclose the previous injury although personally I would only exclude the affected leg (unless you have already had a previous claim for the other leg?)
