Has anyone ever experienced a horse pulling a muscle in the neck or damaging the ligament in the poll area?

How would this affect the horse in the future?
Is it recoverable?

Don't know the ins and outs as the vet who saw the horse is not 100% sure if its muscle of ligament.

Just trying to establish the severity of the injury.

Thanks

Help or opinion would be appreciated :(

I had a horse in last year that pulled back, the next day he seemed fine but after being ridden he was very difficult to get the bridle off, I had to take it apart to do so. I got my physio out as it was obviously damage to the poll, he would hardly let you touch it, he had one treatment followed by daily massage and was fine in a couple of days.
Another pony came in for schooling with a few ridden issues, he was headshy and a bit of a headshaker, on handling around the poll he was very reactive, again treatment by physio resolved the problem but his took longer as it was chronic, it turned out that he had pulled back when travelling sustaining several minor injuries but the poll was never treated, his behaviour was put down to being naughty but once treated he was super and became a happy pony again.

If you can get a good physio to look at him it would be worth it, they are trained to be able to distinguish between ligaments and muscles and should be able to help.

Hi, my horse has neck trouble he has been off work since April been to my local vet then rossdales then last month RVC I've spent nearly £9,000 and still have no real answers, sorry cant help you more , my horse can be ok one day then next day he has real trouble putting his head down it can take him up to 20mins,he starts pawing the ground because of the pain this can last up to 2weeks then he could be ok again for a week or so . Good luck with finding answers . Xx

Great, thanks figgy. Thats a great help :)
He is currently struggling to put his head down, but getting better all the time. I am just curious if it is likely to be substantially weakened and become a reoccurring problem as it would be for human injury or tendon injury.

I am assuming that it probably would be :(

That's ok , the first time my horse had this rossdales said not sure and it should clear up anyhow I thought things where going well then it happened again so that's when we went to RVC we got to go back on the 26 sep , my horse is also lame right hind his had lots of tests for that as well but again couldnt fined out why , I think it has something to do with neck , horse has has nerve blocks , bone scan ,normal scans, and X-ray, vets still not cone up with anything :( hope it works out for your friend!
