My horse is a wuss and becomes a spooky idiot when she is even a little bit chilly. It's been about 5 degrees at night here, and about 13 degrees during the day but with a strong, cold wind. Her field is pretty exposed, without much shelter. As the weather has been much the same over the last couple days, I experimented with rugging and leaving naked. She has not tried jumping on top of me because of a pigeon when rugged in the 0g.

However, for blustery days and summer showers, something a bit lighter but still showerproof and windproof would probably be a bit more comfortable.

Thinking of buying her one of these: https://www.equisupermarket.co.uk/p...ut-lite-greyburgundy-with-black-burgundy/7-ft

Has anyone used one, or are there other similar rugs from other brands I should consider?

Nice rug!! I've just bought my tb a cheap and cheerful trojan rug 50g. It's actually brilliant quality! I'm not a fan of no fill, unless I just pop it on on a warm rainy day before I ride!

Reading your post I immediately thought of that Rambo rug! Sadly I do not have one so can’t offer first hand experiences, but I was planning to get one for my mare before she was PTS and I’d read a lot of good reviews!

Aye, I have found some good reviews of it.

It has the same closure system as her Amigo Hero rugs (no-fill and 50g), and she hasn't got any rubs from them, so I know it will fit her.

She also has a Trojan XTRa, a 200g which I bought in a hurry from the local tack shop during those -8C days in December. That was starting to rub, annoyingly, but she shouldn't have to wear it that much.

I heartily recommend the Swish waterproof fly rugs or Hires version, which look really similar. They both have buckle closures though.

I've got the Rambo one for my PSSM mare & it's great for days when you're not sure what summer weather is going to do. One of the ponies has a Swish one with the waterproof panel and it's probably more waterproof than the Rambo - would stand up to a heavier shower

The advantage of the Rambo is you can stick the warmer liner underneath so I have used it when I know it's 18 degrees at 5pm but likely to be a lot colder at 3am.

I have this rug and it is fantastic!
It came with a liner which goes under the back panel but I've never really used the liner.
Have washed it a couple of times by hand and it remains waterproof.

I bought my tb mare a cheap Trojan rug also and I have been very pleasantly surprised! She’s destroys rugs and it has held up fairly well (could just be luck though?). For the price of it I really can’t complain and it has actually been really handy having something that is a little more versatile for the spring weather.

Luckily my boy isn't a rug destroyer!! I'm really pleased with it. Was going to see what it was like before getting my old boy one!! Hope yours holds up!!

Rambo summer series rugs are brilliant.

This is the IDx in hers after a out night in torrential rain. As you can see in the unrugged pic, it kept her back completely dry, but she did get wet did through the mesh sides, but really the conditions were way beyond what you'd expect a part mesh rug to cope with. It did very well.

Unfortunately after her major pelvic injury which left her very wonky, it does now slip to the right. That happened after these pics were taken.

I was going to suggest a shower proof fly rug, and my choice is the weatherbeeta ones. They seem to dry quickly. I find the some of the very lightweight 0g turnouts (I had a couple of the Bucas ones) don’t keep the rain out at all and stay damp and clammy. I think the mesh is more airy.

Shires waterproof fly rug is decent for the money, Rambo is top tier. My 50g amigo is great, really lightweight and waterproof.
