I think they call it EVA? Anyway....I need to mat or consider matting another stable in the next 3-6 months as my filly will come home.

It HAS to be lightweight, some mats seem to weigh more than me, and its not practical for me to lift them to clean if they are too heavy.

My mare has cow stall matting which is in its 5th or 6th year and doing really well. However my ex YO bought it in, on a pallet in bulk so I have no idea where it came from.

Has anyone bought anything similar recently, with names or phone numbers of companies.

Stable is approximately huge, so cheaper the better. I paid £33 per mat for the last lot.

I've got recycled.conveyor belting in my stable. It's from a brickyard so it's heavy duty belting. Not so thick, but insulating, and makes mucking out easier. Also, quite light. I can roll a 12' length up, tie it and carry it. (found this out when I moved yard - it is easier with 2 people though

I have EVA mats - 34mm. I got them from Robinsons.

Some of the sheets are 3 years old and they still look ok. They are really light (can lift 6x4 by myself) and you can cut them with a sharp kitchen knife. They also dry almost instantaneously.

Thanks, Robinsons sounds worth a look.

Some people at the yard have conveyor belting Janette but I want thicker and softer. They are spoilt Princess Ponies.

Equimats are really light, we really rate them. Will gradually switch all ours over to these when we can afford to, as some of the others are on mats which nearly cripple you moving them!

Yeah, my OH has Equimats - however he earns alot more than a poor student sooooooooooooooooo as my £33 mats have lasted so well I'm happy with similar again!!!

our horses are on cow mats, bought from the local farm stockist, around 35quid a mat, and very light and easy to handle, think they are 6ftx4ft
maybe give your locak farm outlet a ring

I have Robinsons mats they are quite small (approx 1msquare) but still heavyish. I can drag or roll them over on my own to clean underneath.

They sound just like mine!! Thanks, hadn't even thought of doing that! Will look there first.

I bought some lightweight mats from Fieldguard (I think) but they were rubbish. They kept slipping and the corners starter to turn up causing muck to get underneath them. Have re -invested in some really heavy one's now.

Light weight mats aren't always the best option. We have tested them before in our stables but as CrazyMare says they slip and the corners turn up. We installed thick rubber stable mats and have not looked back since. They are a bit of an investment but they pay off in the long term, especially as bedding is so expensive these days! They are obviously heavier than their foam counterparts, but this means they don't move and actually don't let much of anything seep through so there's little need to move them. We got our stable mats from this website . They're pretty reasonable at about £30 each. Hope this was useful
