hiya,

im viewing horses this week and due to my immensly **** budget ive set myself im looking at youngsters 3/4/5... that have been lightly backed, i would plan to then send them away for a month to be schooled if needed....

But what does the term lightly backed generally mean??

my idea was able to walk unlead round a school, perhaps a little trot but thats about it?

in all honesty with some lessons i could school something over time like that but want it done quicker hence sending away.

thanks :)

yes pretty much walk round school, perhaps a trot - that prob about it. IMO

Whats your budget etc.... and what type of thing you after i know of a couple for sale

hiya - under £1500....

could *possibly* stretch to £1800 but that has to include tack!!

see told you it was rubbish :P

but im a tight butt anyhow and refuse to spend over that.... and right now im also trying to save up as well as fund a horse :) possible if i dont spend stupid amounts on one

im not after a world beater - just low level dressage and small local RC jumping. and just have some fun :)

nothing over 14.2 btw.... i dont ride bigger horses, feel incredibly safe on a smaller pony :o

Sorry can't help you with your search for a ned - but I'm with you about the 14.2 size!! :) I feel quite at home on my little arab - although I think he may actually be pushing 14.3

Unfortunately my 3yo has other ideas, and while I was hoping for her to get to about 15hh, she is already pushing 16hh  She seems huge to me - but luckily she is a very sweet girly - and so far (touch wood) she has been a saint to do the little bit of backing that we have done! :)

I have a lightly backed pony I'm selling ;) You can DEF have him for £1500!! Although I haven't measured him yet I reckon he is 13.2/14hh - is that too small?! He's a bit fat if that helps ;)

Would you be interested in a 3 year old New Forest gelding . . . . "lightly backed", going nicely in walk and trot (|I do not intend to do any more than that at the moment). He's just tipping about 14.1hh on his bum (measured him on Monday night!) . . . . just within your budget inc tack . . . . .if you are, pm me and I can send you a link to his ad . . . . :)

oi, im trying to flog her my lightly backed NF, back off ;) ;)

Have a good look around their are some good bargins out there. My friend managed to get a very well bred Welsh C, 4 years old, just backed for £500! She's a fantastic pony. The Chestnut in my sig is her baby as a yearling. I got her for £100. She came from a good welsh breeder who was cutting back on stock.

I think you should easily get a pony for that price. Ive bought several ponies in the past which were 4 or 5yo's unbacked for £500 each. So for £1500 I'd think you can certainly get something only lightly backed, you may just need to have a good dig about ;) Put out a wanted advert, Ive had loads of luck through those in the past.

I would class Charlie as lightly backed - he has been sat on, walked and trotted, hacked out a few times, and is just starting circles/serpentines in the school in walk (circles in trot). He has been ridden about 15 times so far.

yep - thats my ideal ^^^

im happy to send him/her away for a few weeks if i feel it worthwhile to really kick start the education - or have someone on the yard im going on do it for me.

im not abeginner btw - i have owned my own but they have been 6+ not babies!! but everyones got to start somewhere i guess?!

but this next one im buying is for keeps, and will be out at least once a month doing basic prelim dressage (once we are established lol!) :D
