Lights for sandschools? ideas please

We had some of those builders tripod lights on a long extension before we had floodlights put in - think they were £20 or so with 2 500W Halogens.

Used to use 1 set and it was enough for noth of us to ride but you do plunge into darkness when the other person rides through the beam! Also not so good if you've forgotten to switch off the PIR security lights round the house and the cat runs through the sensor - cue all power off and you're cantering in darkness - didn't make that mistake twice!

They aren't waterproof though so only any good if it's not raining or foggy.

We managed 6 months with them last year though

These were the ones we used

I have just started using a set of lights like the ones in the link above. Rather than trailing a cable to the socket in the stables I have bought an inverter and a leisure battery. The inverter is a 500W one and I have changed the bulbs in the lamps to 150W each so as not to overstress the inverter, inverter then connects with clips to the leisure battery. One set in a corner is enough for me to school on the flat and when I purchase the second battery will place the second set in the opposite diagonal. Not used them in the rain so cannot comment on that!

Thank you, Miller & MrsT. Think I'll order some today. I've got a single floodlight up a pole & o/h has just unearthed all the extension leads from last year, trailed them across the field etc etc while I was tacking up & getting ready to go...& eventually after a lot of messing around we discover that the bulb has gone. Cue untacking & stomping back in.

Moveable tripod + leisure battery sounds FAR safer than various extension leads trailing through puddles.
