I was looking at a schedule last night for a local show and even though i've never showed my horse, i considered putting him in the Hunter class while i'm waiting for my showjumping class as there is a gap inbetween. The class states that a lightweight hunter carries up to 13 stone and a heavy weight carries over 13 stone. My horse is 17.1hh and a IDxTB, so I don't think carrying 13 would be an issue but he looks more like a lightweight? He's more muscled up since these photos.

Is he a lightweight hunter? Would he be ok in a hunter class?

Yes the weights are divided by bone ie h/w's have more bone than the l/w's, and measured from the knee down I think. I have a l/w cob that ususally does very well in hunter classes as doesn't have quite enough bone for ridden cobs, but is spot on for hunter classes.

At local level he should be fine and would lean towards the l/w - is it a show hunter or working hunter class?
