Lightweight rugs

What's the practical difference between 600D and 1200D "lightweight" rugs? Are the 1200D more waterproof and robust?

Have a new horse and need to invest in some rugs. My existing horse is much bigger so nothing will fit - I like Horseware Amigo for lightweights and I have that in the 1200D with detachable neck.. but I'm sure that particular rug never used to be so expensive?!

Any recommendations for lightweight (no fill) turnout rugs for a 15hh Connie x, little horse in pony size?? I have a Premier Equine 70g which I think has 600D outer and it's the worst rug I own for leaking, have to put the 1200D Amigo underneath it if I use it... so I'm thinking I need to pay the extra for the 1200D Amigo?! All LW rugs I've looked at seem to be 600D.. What is the Amigo Mio like? I'm sure my Amigo LW is a much heavier material than the Mio.

I have Mark Todd and Fal rugs but I do love the Amigo's I have the 1200 with detachable neck also the 600 - the 1200 is deffinately more waterproof, it has never leaked in 2 years where in heavy rain the 600 does.

I was going to invest in another 1200 as a spare and I thought the price was expensive, I got mine alot cheaper a couple of years ago.

I'm glad it's not just me that thinks they're expensive now! I was starting to wonder if I'd imagined there even being a 1200D as all I seem to be able to find is 600D now...

I like the 1200D because of the detachable neck which none of the 600D in any brand seem to have.

I know, it's really irritating isn't it? Don't quote me but I think the Amigo Bravo is 1200d, wonder if this has replaced it......still, very expensive

Yes, you're right, the Bravo is the 1200D one now. I'm not paying the best part of £80 for a no fill turnout, especially not an Amigo! I'd rather spend a bit more and get a Rambo... maybe that's why they've done it?!

ETA - any reviews/opinions of the Mark Todd lightweight (600D) turnout rugs?

Take a look at Swish Equestrian turnouts. They have various different fill weights, the no fill is 840 denier and the 50 and 100g can both be bought with 1200 denier.

Lovely rugs and all the lighter weights are under £50! Really fast delivery too

I'd take a look at ruggles -most of them are 1200D

I wouldn't but anything under 1200D now. the 600D are a waste of space, rip so easily and aren't remotely waterproof.

I always go for the highest denier I can find, regardless of brand. And just put it through the sowing machine if it's not quite right in fit (usually end up moving the straps down) and have taken the filling out of heavy weights to make them lightweights of middle weights (it's easy to do!)

Axiom do 1680D and a 1800D no fill which are brillaint but big deep and wide for skinny TB types.

Otherwise I just trawl through ebay looking for high deniers! I got a Gallop 2000D heavy weight full neck brand new for £50. Need to decide what to do with it: keep it for winter in the hope the big gangly ISh will have grown into it (and will need something so heavy) or take some filling out and make it a middleweight....

I have the amigo mio lite 600. Its been on 24 hours and we've had a lot of rain. Its leaked very slightly around his neck but other wise fine. It is brand new but thought water running down his neck might have caused the dampness on the inside.
