Looking to buy a lighweight saddle, synthetic or leather. Have seen some synthetic leather look a likes but not sure on quality or comfort (don't worry I have totally disregarded the real cheap ones)!!!! Needs to be lw, plenty of cushion, pref GP, wide gullet and looks nice!!!!

Eh, one that fits? One make and model will suit, another won't.

thorowogood are the best place to start - very well designed and well made saddles that won't hurt your horse, unlike many cheap brands.

I like this comment, made me laugh!

I would say Wintec is best to be honest

surely knee-blocks and how easily it marks is the least important part?

The Kincade saddles (and Gallop and Rhinegold) are cheap crap make in india for a pittance. I know someone who found a coke can inside on once...... The one's I've taken apart are appalingly made and horrifically unsymetrical. Flockings mad from left overs of rug filling too.

The only sythentics that should be allowed anywhere a horses backs are the wintecs (which don't fit many horses) and the thorowogoods. I don't know of any other brand of synthetic what are well made enough to be considered.

Well I have the kinkade saddle and have used it on my horse since I bought him. I have it checked by a saddler (Adrian from Buttons) every year and apart from a little extra flocking in the back when I initially bought it has been a perfect fit ever since. I much prefer it to wintec, I had a wintec VSD it is much heavier and the seat was very flat felt as though I was sitting on a table. I also have an isobelle dressage saddle which I have hardly used as the kinkade is so much more comfy.

It is much lighter than wintec too but some people think the more they spend the better they get.

I love the Wintecs - i have a few of the older 'sport' versions which i love!
with regards to the 'cheaper' ones - well, some are ok, some arnt!
it seems to be the companies mentioned 'budget' ones that are pants... but the slightly more expensive ones are much better IME.
i have an arab x hannoverian who is a tricky fit. I ended up buying a few at trade in the hope that at least one would fit and i could then sell the others on.
i ened up with a STATUS one that is a perfect fit and i love it, people who have also ridden my horse in it like it too.

the best thing if possible is to try and have a good luck at as many as you can in local tack shops, see what people on your yard have etc.

Kallibear - appreciate the advice but....
1) I originally put in my post I have disregarded the cheap ones
2) Knee blocks and marks were not my priority, this was never stated.

I will re-phrase

I want a light weight saddle, synthetic OR leather. Comfortable, padded (comfort for my horse), doesn't wear easily (some synthetics mark really easily and they're ruined), decent knee roll preferable and priced under £300.

Martlin and horsegirl, can't believe how cheap that kincade is!!!!!! I had one years ago. So horsegirl, you say kincade is lighter than wintec??

There's just tons around and wanted to see who rated what. Thos cheap continental ones are awful, the padding is so lumpy and they are stiff as hell!!!

Lotti - do you have any more on those kincades for sale?? I have two baby tb's who have filled out massively last month or so. Currently in medium fitting ideal. How wide is it between the panels at the back, how many fingers can you fit? Thanks :)
