Does anyone know if it is OK to wear the new, helmet style hats in the show ring? I have a lightweight one that I use generally which is fantastic and cool, but for my showing outings I have been wearing the old fashioned skull cap with a velvet cover and am melting in the beastly thing.

Do you have to have a cloth cover on your hat for showing? I wish I had paid more attention at my last show, but had such a throbbing headache from overheating I didn't think to do any research!

Next show looming and would love to be a bit cooler!

Thanks in advance & enjoy your horses this weekend - the rains should have finally stopped for a while (in the South at least!!).

For showing you really should have a velvet hat - preferably not a skull cap with velvet cover. Colour should not be black.

One you describe is really not the done thing though you should be ok for low level showing.

Navy velvet hat with flesh straps is ideal, if not a skull cap with a velvet cover (in navy) would be next best.
