Hi. I need to buy our pony a new sweet itch rug this spring. His current one is heavy and too warm, im trying to find a lightweight one that keeps the midges at bay but I’m overwhelmed at all the options and it’s difficult to tell from the spec/pics.

Can anyone offer any recommendations to help narrow my search?

My go to sweet itch rug is a Boett, but when I need something a little cooler, I use a Rambo. It's a mesh one, and pretty good, but I can't remember exactly what it's called I'm afraid.

This is definitely helpful. I use it for ventral line, worked last summer for us.

I’ve had a couple of those lightweight polyester combos similar to the HKM one Spirit7 has recommended and found them very good. One was an Equitheme and the other some generic brand. Much less expensive than a Boett and wash and dry like a dream. You do need to scrunchie up the neck and pull it on over the pony’s head. I bought mine on eBay and they were so inexpensive that if they didn’t work out I wasn’t going to be too upset about it.

I use the Amigo Rip Stop Hoody on my mare when it’s too warm for a conventional SI rug. My mare is super hot, and these definitely alleviate that somewhat.

They don’t have a belly flap, so may not be suitable for a more severe SI case, but if it’s mild, they do the trick lovely.
