Lightweight Trailer help!

Don't know anything about the Requisite ones I'm afraid but I seem to recall Richardson and Bateson do (or did when I was looking) a lightweight model so you could check their websites.

Dont know anything about them sorry, but i just want to stick my nose in and say personally if i was you i would go for a 2horse trqailer they are generally sturdier and even if you only travel one its always good to have extra space or have option of taking a friend aswell. especially for another 250quid!! Good luck i also think bateson has a lightweight one.

Cheval is very light but ours is starting to rust and only a couple of years old!

We had a bateson prior to this though and was a fabulous trailer! We towed with an estate car easily.

Thanks for the replies so far.

I have looked at the Bateson Derby, just worried about it being rear unload only, never tried that with my horse, and she can be a bit 'difficult' at times. Don't want rear unloading to put her off even more!

Can't see prices on the Cheval Liberte site, but your saying the CL are cheaper than Robinsons?

Just found a lightweight (650kg) second hand Rice Trailer. But again its rear unload only :(

I had the derby and never had a problem with the rear unload (even with difficult loaders)
We would take teh partition out and cross tie them and the smaller pony could turn around in the trailer then walk out but all of our other horses backed out easily once they got used to it.

Requisite trailers ARE Cheval Liberte, only rebranded and more expensive :)

Ah! didn't know that!

Mine is 6ish years old now and still pretty much perfect.

OP I believe the front ramp is pretty heavy, that may be why the ones in your weight range are all rear unload?

If you want to find prices go to the distributors section of the CL website and contact one of those.

Cool, thanks guys. Two options to consider, seems not many have the requisite trailers, which also puts me off a bit....so bateson derby and a cheval liberte are the two to go for!!! And suppose rear unloading would get easier as we practice, after all our problem is getting IN the box, not outta it!!

I was gonna suggest the Batesons Derby, but didnt realise it was rear unload only.
I have the Batesons Ascot and its very lightweight and I love it

Your horse will indeed get used to unloading backwards, do you have any friends with this trailer you could try out?

You don't even need a rear un-load to practice with as you can back them out of any trailer. When our ramp was to stiff to open the other day we had to back him out. :)

Yea I will try practising it, see how we get on! Another thing with Bateson is I will prob have to buy brand new as second hand ones don't come up very often.

I had a Bateson Derby and it was brill for my two ponies but my horse became very difficult to unload, mainly because I had to manage on my own. He had the whole space without the partition but if I undid the breech bar he would start to panic and run backwards and he did get loose at a show once because of this as he snapped his tie string. I would have been ok if I had someone to stay at his head and guide him out. If I untied him first he tried to turn but he was too big and would have got stuck. He loaded ok and travelled well but I couldn't resolve the rear unload in that particular model.
