Lightweight turnout?

Hello, I'm having a little shop around for a lightweight turnout as I think it's finally time to replace my ancient old Weatherbeeta one that came with Bonnie and has been fixed about 5 zillion times :)

I would rather not spend too much as I'm on a limited budget, so I've been looking at Equestrian Clearance etc. I'm now stuck on whether to get a Landa Lite, lightweight Amigo, Masta Zing, Shires Summer Stormbreaker or one of the lightweight Premier Equine rugs. Experiences of using any of these and opinions on which to go for would be much appreciated :)

I have a Premier Equine lightweight. I do like it for fit, I have a TB and it's quite high on neck and long in the body. It hasn't been the most waterproof rug but not sure how many lightweights are! If anyone has a really waterproof one I'd like to know!
 
Hmm, Premier Equine is seeming more tempting now I've realised there's a sale on :)

I've never bought any rugs from them before but I've got some brilliant tendon boots and xc boots from them that were ridiculously cheap!
 
i've just bought the masta zing one from equestrian clearance - good budget rug - but not as generous across the chest as the more expensive masta range - but my horse is crossed with an elephant so we generally have rug fitting issues:rolleyes:

I have got a H-zone spring ranger which is totally waterproof and hasnt yet been re-proofed since we had it 2 years ago. i got it from local saddlery not sure if you can get them online.
 
I have a masta zing one I bought from Mole Valley, it was £25 and I wouldn't buy it again. They're ok rugs if you don't have other horses pulling on them, messing around etc. but my boy is in with a couple of rug rippers and Masta one just didn't withstand them. They rip very easily and one rip usually turns into a huge one without much effort, have repaired numerous times lol! It was the first rug I bought him though and I still have it and use it sometimes, but never surprised when there's another rip in it. I've also used Rhinegold rugs and would say the same thing, not hardwearing if being tugged on.

He's other lw is a castle one and I must say, they are brilliant!! Very hardwearing, no rips at all in this one from other horses. He got his leg stuck in it once and ripped it but I've fixed it and had no further problems. I also wash it in my machine and it comes up lovely, didn't use any waterproofing stuff but it's still fine and keeps him dry. They're also great value, think I paid £30 for the rug and £18 for the hood (also brilliant). Highly recommend.

I intend to buy the MW castle one for this winter :D
 
I wouldn't touch Masta or Rheingold either.

I have Amigo 600d and Watherbeeta Landa Lites which are both good value for the money. However the best lightweights I have are the Rambo ones with the netting lining. They were expensive but are totally waterproof and have lasted for years.

It is a case of getting what you pay for. I have heard that the Amigo 1200d is better in the rain than the 600d.
 
Swish rugs currently have 60% off and look very good value. R&R also have Mark Todd ones for £27.50. I am torn between the Mark Todd, Amigo and Swish rug.
