I need a lighter weight riding coat now the weather is warming up (supposedly!)

Any recommendations- prefer a longer coat to keep bum dry when riding.

Would like to not spend a massive amount!!

I have a Covalliero one that I got at Christmas: https://www.redpostequestrian.co.uk...t-ladies-long-waterproof-jacket--navy__206358

Only downside is that where it opens out at the back there's no material, IYSWIM. So either I keep it zipped down slightly under my bum or pair with waterproof jodhs. Otherwise it's lovely and breathable - I've worn it over a down jacket in very cold weather, over a jumper and I'm sure it will be fine to use over a tshirt in summer. It's very light material.

I'm looking for such a thing too, OP. A lightweight jacket in which I won't cook if out all day in it on a wet summer's day on a pre booked trek or trail ride. To go over a polo shirt and body protector. Long cut so I don't get a wet bum.

Keep going back to the Ri-Dry classic coat which is not cheap at £199, but if it does the job...

Absolutely the Weatherbeeta Kyla - my fiance got me one for Christmas and its such a lovely coat. I have the maroon one for the yard/riding and a black one to keep "for best" for when I am photographing at events and need to look presentable

OH and I were walkers before I rode. If it is pouring in summer, I wear my summer anorak which is Berghaus.

Yes - I was going to say, something that isn't a riding coat! In pouring rain I wear my bombproof Mountain Equipment hill walking / climbing coat with a two way zip, and for normal drizzly hacking I have a Mountain Warehouse (other end of the spectrum but actually surprisingly very good) hi viz cycling jacket.

This! I've an old Berghaus Goretex Paclite with a double zip that I wear for riding. It also has pit zips so I can vent it in warmer weather. The downside is that it's not massively long (it just covers my bum) and the seam sealing round the neck/hood has gone. I also have a cycling one that doesn't have a hood but has a cord so you can tighten up the neck to limit the amount of water that dribbles inside.

Thanks - not seen this one before.

I have looked at these - I think the riding club had an offer. But I just can’t justify the price right now! Let me know if you do go ahead

Yes I bought a Kyla on recommendation from people on here and I love it but it’s too heavy for warmer weather.

I have full and 3/4 length Jack Murphy macs which are made for riding with 2 way zips, leg straps etc. I wear these when absolutely tipping down.

Didriksons are excellent coats, I've got hip length and thigh length both with just mesh lining and they are very waterproof and breathable.

Equi dry have brought out a Mac version. Granted I don't own one so can't comment on how warm it would get but it would do the job of keeping you dry https://equidry.co.uk/collections/e...ac-jacket-with-mesh-lining-dark-sapphire-navy
Just got an Equimac, it arrived yesterday. It's a really good heavy duty lightweight no fill mesh lined jacket. It's got a waist gathering, so is less tent like than the original fleece lined Equidrys - I've also got an Equidry Pro Ride lite which has been brilliant all winter and early spring, but would be too warm for summer.

I'm a chunky size 12/14, 5'10" tall, this is an Extra Small 🤪 Tall over a fleece jumper. It also easily accommodates my body protector over the jumper and under the jacket.

I drew a blank earlier this week looking for a tough but lightweight below the bum mesh lined waterproof jacket with rear vents at the huge HVS store at Somerford.

Steirna Stella all the way. I have their winter coat and I absolutely love it. Very, very flattering, waterproof, windproof, breathable, and light. I think they do just a rain one as well. I've had mine for a couple of years and absolutely no complaints.

Long rain version of my winter coat:

I got the HV Polo rain jacket in a sale last Autumn. It’s mesh lined 3/4 length with double zip and rear splits. It’s a lovely coat and very waterproof - the only fault I find with it are the pockets are quite small so I have to put my phone in riding tights.

Always wanted a Ri-Dry but unsure on size? Pop and see us at Onley Grounds Equestrian Complex next month where you can not only view and try the entire range but you can also save a huge 15% on all purchases.

I have this one & love it! Its just perfect for autumn or spring, its also smart enough to wear into the office when its pelting rain & to the shops! It always gets alot of compliments - they are generous sizes, I usually wear 12 & I got a Large cause I thought it would be more fitted but I could have definitely gotten a Medium but I love it so much I dont really mind!
