Liiittle bit upset.

I agree. I was just feeling that she is biting back at some people when they are actually trying to be supportive, even if its not always coming over that way!!

I'm with her and really hope it works out well. But she needs to accept that there are a lot of people who know a lot more through their experience and accept that advice as appropriate. She has an experienced person helping her and hopefully that will be enough. The trouble is with horses is that the more you know, the more you realise you dont know!!! If you know what I mean!!

Thats the problem with being fourteen! You just dont know how much you dont know.

Lets all support her and try to offer advice in a supportive and non-critical way.

sounds like someone else on here.

but all you can do is offer,i think she will take on advice if we give it right

I have to say, I am not sure who you and the others are complaining about. You told us about a horse that I had visions of pretty much keeling over and dying right before your eyes......when you posted pictures of him; well this was so far from your previous comments that it was quite concerning for me to see that this horse was what you classed as an ILPH horror case.

The horse is lovely; it was a wonderful surprise to see that he was in such nice condition; he is a horse who looks like he has worms, however he IS NOT a rescue horse and that is what I take exception to. Every time someone cries wolf there are repercussions - it undermines REAL rescue horses.

You say he was wormed by the vet at the 5 Stage vetting; well I've never heard of that before, however I'll take your word for it. I have to say one final thing; I am impressed that a horse who was unsound, has damaged knees etc passed a vetting.

Good luck to you with your horse. I will enjoy seeing the updates on him but I very much doubt I will ever reply to your posts asking for help again. If this is the way people who are trying to help and give advice are treated then sorry but that's not for me!

Probably best allround if you just have the people who respond with the usual "lovely pony" type replies.

Well my last word on this subject is to say that......

Opinions are like a***h***s......... everyone has one and some of them stink!!!!!

All we can do is give advice and support.

If she chooses to take it or not is up to deadpan.

Tia- I value your comments. I have learnt so much from you in a short time. Thanks.

Oh and isn't that just a great attitude *sigh* I don't give a flying toss if any single person on here thinks my attitude stinks in advising and being concerned about a horse AND horses that it is in contact with. Stick with the pink fluffy ponies if you want, when the horse and those it is in contact with has serious colic or implications because of a huge worm burden I am sure you will sympathise - listening to what you want to hear will get you NOWHERE with living breathing animals.

I won't be commenting on this post anymore, am just amazed that people think concern is akin to being cruel
confused.gif

ETS: I don't think I have ever met a vet who carries wormer as a matter of course, they are too busy trying to fit everything else they need in their vehicle. AND if the horse had been wormed then why was that just not said on yesterdays post??? The comments were blatently ignored.

Did you use their local vet? When I bought one of mine they wouldn't allow any other vet as they said they always failed them!

Yes, I should have walked away before it got to that stage but I too fell in love and ......

That was a few years ago though and I am a lot wiser now.

my only advice listen to th people that KNOW. these are the people who have either been through it themselves or kow of cases. if people know so mch they wouldnt be asking opionions on an open forum. having the attitude of some advice stinks and referring to arse holes is very dim and pathetic point of view. that was advice we didnt need

and what i couldnt understand is her sisters horse in the quarantine field aswell?

Sorry Weezy, that wasnt actually directed at you, your concern re the worming was very valid... especiall as he is turned out with others,,, it was directed at the people who were telling her to shut up etc and generally not making any useful comments whatsoever.

And the ones who were just being nasty for no particular reason except to perhaps inflame the thread. sorry

I can't believe anyone thinks people have been unkind and unsupportive. The first thread ran to several pages, with people who have a great deal of experience offering their advice and guidance. The horse in question was described as being skin and bone, with girth galls and gashes on its legs. Advice was given to contact the IPLH, and try to get the dealer put out of business. A few days later - ta dah!! Horse flies through a 5* vetting, and is shown to be in reasonable condition (certainly not a cruelty case) and is turned out with other horses. Once again, advice and opinions were given. Obviously there has been some economy with the truth at some point in this tale, but nobody has done anything other than be honest and practical. I wish Deadpan luck with this horse, but shall take her further posts with a pinch of salt.

Deadpan you had over a hundred replies to your post about the 'rescue case', all people offering you advice and support, and taking time to do so.

You then posted pics of a horse that was by no means a rescue case, and yes you admit to exaggerating, but at the same time you stirred up a lot of emotion and also wasted people's time because half of what you said about his condition appears to not be true.

I wish you luck with him but remember this is real life and although it may look nice having your ponies out in the field together, worms are a real danger and you need to make sure you are doing everything to protect both your new and existing horse.

Im pleased the new horse looks so well and I hope you have fun with him.

And we're donating £500 to a horsie charity, don't know which one yet, but that's what we knocked off his asking price and it's the least that we can do.

How about the ILPH.........

i think it only takes a little bit of intelligence to work out who has offered up, once again, the most sensible replies.

this animal is/never has been an ILPH case.

i'm sorry, but the 85% of you who have answered gushingly about how well done Deadpan has done, how lucky this horse is blah, blah blah, are living in a haze of rose coulouring.

thanks for supoort, via pm, of my posts, i wish you'd put them on here, then the actual ratio of sense over sopp would be quite high!

and Deadpan, when you pm me, DON'T call me dear.
oh, i forgot, you wont actually read this as i'm on your ignore user list!

would that include several other members who don't happen to think you are "champion horse saver 2007"??

as i said...deluded..

for the record, you aren't based a million miles away, may see you at events.

RHT by and large I agree with your general sentiments, but a little tact and diplomacy wouldn't go a miss!!! (then the facts may not have got mixed/displaced by the 'but she's only a child' rants).

***Waits for backlash, but don't really do PMs as believe if you have something to say, you should have the conviction to post.***

but is she a "child"??

vocabulary, spelling, term of speech?
not very "teenager" are they???

100% with you on the pm-ing though.

I think some people simply got beyond irritated on the other post. Deadpan - You really can't blame them though. Yes, sure some people got over-the-top but everybody deals with things differently. You came on originally saying how terrible this horse was, we all gave our honest advice and support. Then we see a photo of the horse who seems in pretty good condition - it is not skin and bones, it does not seem to have ANY damage to its legs etc. And still things you've said dont add up, like the fact it passed a vetting - if it was in such a state, there is no way it would have passed.

Can you not see why some people have got worked up? Honestly?

I do wish you the best of luck with this horse though, it sounds like a dodgy situation.

'Well, I have trawled through this lot and Deadpan has put her neck on the line in every sense of the word. She stands to lose a great deal if this doesn't work out and has had much criticism for choosing to buy this horse against much advice to walk away'

I don't see that she would lose anything, it isn't as though she has had to pay for it, after all.
but I won't comment further, i think I made my views pretty clear before

Hi

I have read all these responses. I think there are a lot of dealers out there who will sell any horse to anyone, there are also ones that will give you your money back if the horse is unsuitable. So it's a difficult one to call.

Cheer up - I read your previous posts. Your heart is definitely in the right place and I am so pleased for you that you have got a horse that you obviously fell in love with. Good luck with everything. I absolutely love spotties and will be interested to see some more photos when you have had him a few months - I bet he will look wonderful.
smile.gif

Good luck with the horse Deadpan, I really hope it works out for you and him. I'm so pleased he has a nice caring home. I really dont think it matters whether other forum users think he is thin or fat. We should all be happy that he looks OK. I would wait until he is in tip top condition and then post a photo for us all to see. Can wait!

as i said earlier, everyone does things in different ways-to the more hardened of us who had seen more in the way of neglected horses i understand where you are coing from in that the first post about him was misleading.

it would be good for deadpan to listen to those that have a lot of experience and take heed of what they say, there is alot of good advice out there-some of it is negative but you have to take the good with the bad.

it isn't good however, to just listen to those posts that support what you feel...i doubt it would be in your or the horses interest.

i stand by what i said about people making nasty comments on here though.

good luck with him, get some pics up as he progresses!
smile.gif

Hi Deadpan,
I must admit that, like the others, I don't really think your horse looks to bad at all from that pic, though I do appreciate that photo's can be deceptive. I look fat on some, but we all know I really have the figure of a supermodel...
wink.gif

You say that you over-exaggerated a bit, so fair enough. I have two teenagers who can do the same, and it's all part of growing up.

I wish you the very best of luck with your new horse, and look forward to hearing updates.
smile.gif

I have stayed out of this post until now as i think things did get a bit nasty in the other post (and i didn't even read it all) but i just want to say that you shouldn't feel the need to apologise for your actions.

Ok i do agree that he doesn't look in the condition you described and i was expecting a complete hat rack with gashes all over him but i was quite pleased to see he actually looked quite well.

I would of done the same thing if i was in your position though, my heart rules my head and he would of come home with me there and then and you did what you thought was right.

Thing is one person turning down a horse because of the condition it is in is not going to stop the hundred other buyers from purchasing these animals so dealers like this will always be in business.

I wish you all the best with him and i am glad he has found a happy home x
