My daughter has recently bought a likit that you can hang from the stable ceiling (for a horse we haven't bought yet i might add lol!) but we can't seem to get information on how long we should keep it in the stable. Basically, can you leave it in the stable 24/7?

Also the flavours are very sweet and I was just wondering about the effect it may have on a horses teeth? I suggested a salt lick would be fine but she thought the likit would also keep the horse occupied.

Cheers

I don't get a chance to take it out as my boy knows how to demolish it within 10 minutes by biting it so it drops on the floor.

Depends on the horse as if a lami risk I would no give or restrict it to 10 minutes only.

If you give them - i would do on a rare occasion as they are sweet and not good for them too oftem

I thought that it wouldn't be a good idea to let them have them everyday. Although I have found a post on here where someone cores and apple and places it on the stick and it keeps their horse occupied for a good amount of time.

cheers for the post

I would never ever allow a horse here to have a likit all that sugar bad for their teeth and feet , much better to get something like a swinger which is pressed dried grass you can leave them with those and it takes them a good while to get through them.

Usually they are just left in until they are gone, ok for a one off treat but quite a bit of sugar for a regular thing. You do get more healthy alternatives which fit in the same likit holder once the original has been eaten!

Also, if its for a new horse yet to arrive, you might not want to blow its brains with sugar until it has at least settled in ;)

Haha, very true!! I was thinking of putting an apple in the likit holder now instead of the likits, just as a treat, i really dont like the idea of giving them any false sugars.

I'd really recommend a bizzybite. The hanger is designed so the horses can only lick it not bite it. One refill lasts my horse at least 4 weeks so I don't worry about him having too much sugar.
