Went to Limes Farm yesterday for the BN and the Disc. It was on grass and the course was actually quite inviting.

Senza warmed up really well and was clearing everything by miles. My friend said to try and get her to whack a pole before she goes in but do you think i could . . . . . NO!!!!!!

We went in the BN and she jumped like a little star, felt like she was really giving them room. We came up to the first double though and she ballooned the first part as it was an oxer which didn't leave us much room for the next part and we just caught it with her back legs but she flew the rest of the course fine. I was really pleased with her and started to wonder why she couldn't jump like that all the time LOL.

Anyway the discovery came and by this time she knew what was expected of her and she was jogging on the spot, spinning round and just being a little nutter. I tried keeping her calm but she was just soooo excited. Again she warmed up brilliantly. We even jumped the biggest oxer we have ever jumped (it was massive for us) and she cleared it with another 2 foot to spare. I was so pleased with her as 2 weeks ago she wouldn't jump 2'6!!!!!!

Anyway we went into the Disc she jumped No1 and No2 perfect came round to No3 which was at one end of the arena and No4 was at the other, i knew i was gonna have a slight conrol issue. We galloped into No3 which came down and i had no control AT ALL as we galloped flat out into No4 which also came down (i was literally leaning back and pulling as hard as i could). Anyway after that little burst of excitment she came back to me and we jumped the rest really nicely so i was a bit gutted about that but she really pleased with her.

So all in all a good day really and i came away with a big smile on my face. I could tell that Senza was thoroughly enjoying herself too which made me really happy as she has been so unhappy jumping lately so hopefully her confidence will start to grow again now and in the meantime i need to find some brakes LOL.

No she is still for sale but i'm just gonna carry on as i have been until she is sold. I was watching some of the bigger classes yesterday and i just cant ever see her jumping them although i was tempted to enter the 1.05 as i felt like she could of coped with that but didn't want to push her.

Got some pics but haven't uploaded them yet.

Well done, sounds like you have nearly got it. BTW I wouldn't listen to your friend about making her 'whack a pole'. Why would you want to do that?

Because one of her horses is quite lazy and if she makes him knock before he goes in then he usually learns from it and picks up better in the ring. It seems to work for her but not sure it really worked for Senza to be honest as she still had 2 down in the discovery

She did start to pick up better in the warm up after she hit it though but i didn't make her hit it intentially that time we just had the wrong striding.

There was about 25-30 in each class which i thought was quite a nice amount. Only 9 went clear in teh BN though and i dont know how many went clear in the Dis so i didn't feel so bad in having a few faults LOL.

And we was home about 2.30pm which was great

How come you didn't go in the end?? I kept a look out for you just in case??

Oh not as busy as I thought it would be then

TBH we havnt jumped for weeks cause of the dressage stuff and I couldnt be bothered lol - i didnt even get a chance to ride at all over the weekend with new house bits and getting stuff sorted before OH goes to India to work for 2wks today

Well done Kelly. Sounds like you both enjoyed youselves. Some horses just don't perform at home...but love the atmosphere of a show and play up to it. Others are the complete opposite. As for getting Senza to hit a pole in the warm-up...I don't think she's the sort of a horse to benefit from that

She's too sensitive and it's likely to have the adverse affect on her. Although I never try and hit pole with Bo, I know that if he does he's very unlikely to touch another afterwards...but that's just his mentality...again different horses, different methods.

Just continue to keep it a happy experience for you both and you'll get there. Four faults doesn't sound like a careless horse...especially as you have a reason for it

Hi Rambo

Yeah she definatly does go better at a show than she does at home, even in her flat work!!! Think she likes to show off LOL.

I dont think i will try that with her again, she didn't touch a pole in the warm up in the BN and we only had one down in that round and in the Disc as soon as she hit them two poles it was like she was thinking 'oops i better behave now' as she came back to me and jumped the rest really well. We was even disunited up to the last jump which was a double and she cleared it perfectly. I was so happy with her as she felt like she was really trying so that means more to me than anything else.

I'm just gonna keep things fun for us from now on and take the pressure off to try and build both our confidences back up again

Sounds like she has turned a corner again and is really enjoying herself. Good luck with finding a stronger bit. Have you tried a grackle noseband with your present bit, in case she is crossing her jaw.

No i haven't tried that one yet!! My friend has got one so may ask if i can borrow that. Have been through a whole range of bits and cant find one that suits her jumping yet. Have also tried a flash which doesn't work either

Its a nightmare as if you put something stronger in her she starts to hollow and i have only just got her out of that habbit, plus she is only just 5yo so dont want to start shoving anything too harsh in her but i cant hold her in a snaffle

She is in a waterford at the moment.
