Has anyone used limestone as a stable floor?

We have a barn with hard core floor, I am wondering which is cheaper/better, cement or limestone. I am thinking of getting internal stables (attached to existing beams, with a limestone floor then deep litter)

Has anyone had any experiences?

Well not sure if its of any help, but we have earth floors in our barn (so just the hardcore that was there)

They are fantastic, the floors drain and you can deep litter with no squigeyness

I'd never put down concrete having had these.

Yes! This was exactley what I did to our barn two years ago when I moved my horse home. I had an old stone barn with a rough cobbled floor that sloped (not massively) to the stable doors. I put down limestone to level it off (have a small brick height step in) and compacted it really well, hired a vibrating pad thing! I put rubber mats down on top but the floor itself is brilliant - I would now never concrete or anything else - no odours, much more effective etc etc and so much cheaper!

I then put up (ok not personally!) internal partitions from West of England stabling which they bolted to the limestone floor, the stone walls at either end and the partition ran along a wooden beam, so to the beam as well.

I was told re chalk that its exactley the same as limestone, and my Grandfathers old stable which are now rented out are chalk based and they deep litter very well.

Hope that helps!
