My Dalmatian has had a limp tail as if she is holding it between her legs since Sunday , she wags it but not as high or straight as normal
I have read about limp tail as a medical thing not just a limp tail! And on Saturday she got very cold and wet on a long walk, we did try to warm her up as soon as we got home
Has anyone ever heard or seen of this , any advice welcome

My lab x springer who is always wagging her tail got a condition and it may have been called limp tail. We had been away on holiday and I took her on a long walk where she also swam in a stream on our return and the vet reckoned she strained her tail muscles (at the base) and was very sore as a result. Not uncommon apparently in dogs that wag their tails a lot. It cleared up after a few days and wagging resumed.

It sounds as if it might be cold tail, although I think they tend to just hang straight a couple of inches from the dock rather than tuck between the legs. It does sound as if she is in pain so I would get her checked out, anti inflammatories will probably make her more comfortable.

Our lab suffered this the first time she had a proper swim. She has suffered since after swimming. Not sure if she has a weak tail or if it's the way she swims. She is usually fine after a few days.

I'm another whose lab has had this. Normally very waggy - went to the beach for the first time last year - absolutely loved it. But that night was very miserable with a tail which just hung from him and he was unable to move it at all. Within a couple of days though was back to normal.

I think its called Limber Tail.

My akita also had a limp tails (but it was injured) as when playing she spun around and landed on the base causing some damage, it looked awful....it was up again a week later after some anti inflammatory and pain relief.

My younger dalmatian, also gets 'limp tail' although less frequently than he did, always after swimming or getting wet in the winter time, he also wont keep a coat or equafleece on ( little horror!!) , as keeping the base of his tail covered when its very, very cold seems to stop this problem.
They are kenelled outside through the day but he doesnt seem to get it when he is in kennels only when wet or cold, out walking?
Our Vet seemed supremely unconcerned whenever we have taken him in with it, have never really had any definitive answers, It doesnt seem to affect him in any way, just his tail is at 'half mast' and looks a bit odd.

There was an article in Shooting Times I think about cold tail in labs. Ours had it once, it was awful, she was very miserable. Keep it warm and rested - tail root and dog!
