Hello,

Would welcome any advice, my collie terrier cross has started limping today. I thought I saw a slight limp yesterday but noticed it definately today in her front leg. She seems to be happy moving about and desperate to go for walks and zoom around the place. She doesn't seem to be in pain and doesn't mind me touching it. It is much worse when she has been laid down in her bed for an hour or so and then gets up, it is quite pronounced then. She is 2 and usually extremely fit and tough as anything (think she might be part jack russel). Do you think it might be a sprain or something? She was so excited about the snow she did go quite crazy yesterday running around in the field and I suppose the ground is pretty hard. How long do you think I should leave it before I try the vet? I can't feel or see anything on the leg as such and she has very skinny bony legs so imagine I would see any swelling ...I am much better at working these things out on horses! ...quite new to dogs. Any advice welcome.

I would think quite likely she has twisted it if she has been hooning in the snow. If she were mine I would restrict her to on lead exercise for at least a couple of days and see if there is an improvement. If she gets worse then obviously would be worth popping her to the vet.

I would imagine it's a sprain if it's come on suddenly so, as Murphy's Minder said, restrict her to lead walking for a while and see if it improves. Also, try not to allow her to jump up on things or off things!
