Hi all,

I thinking about doing a Lingfield Correspondence course that incorporates the BHS Horse owners certificate. Has anyone else done one of these courses?

Hi, I looked into doing these, but instead have done 3 stages of the BHS horse owners course with my local RC. It was great fun, as it mainly involved 6 ladies sitting round the kitchen table discussing our horses. We did have a long suffering teacher, who had to keep reminding us that we were there to learn the BHS way - and we did do our exams properly.

The course is great - and we all learned things we didn't know, even though we have all owned horses for years.

If you can find a RC or college that does it locally, I would go for that. The interaction with other horse owners is what makes it all fun! And there are practical sides to it such as bandaging, rugging and first aid, that you can't really do properly by correspondence.

Thanks Liz, that sounds like a fun way to do it, and it would be a good opportunity to meet some local horsey people. Its the Horse owners certificate that I was really interested in as I've never owned my own horse and my stable managment knowledge is very limited:(

Thought I better learn more before hopefully finding a horse to share/loan:)I will look into RC locally and see if any of them offer it. The other option I was thinkng about is contacting a local BHS qualified instructor to find out if they offer it.

How long is the course and how much does it cost?

If you cannot find a local place to take the BHS HOC or cannot get to do the regular lectures or something then the Lingfield courses are actually very useful. There are quite a number of people who have done them and they found they helped them for the Stages stuff too. There are some reviews on their web site saying this too. it is horse-care.co.uk
