We’ve just built four stables using 6” concrete blocks and I’m looking for advice on what best to line them with. Do you think marine ply or rubber matting would be better? Or any other suggestions? Priority is to dissipate any energy from kicks to the walls...

Rubber (or EVA much better) will absorb more, but is dearer.

Ply a bad choice, it can splinter if kicked. OSB just sort of dies, and is cheaper too.

My (wood) stables are lined with shuttering - cheap wood fibre board, Don't see why it wouldn't work as well inside block work, it i thick enough to absorb kicks and you can paint it if you want to

Stockboard is excellent for lining stable walls, it's usually made from recycled plastic, comes in different thicknesses, is strong, washable and lasts for years. Always go for farm stockboard rather than the equine branded stuff which is more expensive.
