Im currently feeding SS Green gold and purabeet. I wanted to add linseed but not at SS's price

I have two to feed 15.2 ISH and 11 *****land, how much linseed/tumeric would you feed each of them?

Thanks :)

What purpose are you feeding linseed for? I used to buy the SS stuff but its got too expensive so now use I'Anson linseed lozenges from my feed merchant (cattle food section). A 20kg sack (actually it could be 25kg now I think about it) is about £14. I feed a mug per day so it lasts for ages. (16.2 full ID).

I wouldn't use linseed lozenges, they are a waste product from linseed oil production and are low in oil. They're also formed into the lozenge shape with molasses, so pointless as a supplement.

I've been using Charnwood Milling for the last few years. 20kg will last my two horses for the entire year.

Turmeric I get from Cotswold Health Products (as well as fenugreek, clivers, mint, nettle, meadowseet, marigold, chamomile, cat's claw, yarrow etc etc :) )

I used to add Total Eclipse to just grass or ruff stuff and fast fibre, mag ox. I now have bought brewers yeast and linseed from charnwood milliing and dropped the Total Eclipse.

About 10g ( a teaspoon) Brewers Yeast and 100g approx ( small mug) Linseed.

doesnt make mine fizzy at all and she cant tolerate much!!! - I give my 16hh ISH 200g a day in winter and 50g a day in summer - good for joints, good mucus properties for guts, healthy coat and condition.

Depends on condition really - if skinny can feed up to 500g if not then 100-200g a day i find about right.

I've never heard of a horse who got fizzy from linseed. Alfalfa/molasses/cereals yes. But not linseed.

It's a horsey Superfood....

How much do you feed? Charnwood recommend 200gm (for a TB) daily and on that rate a 20KG bag would only last 100 days i.e. just over 3 months for 1 horse!

I use Charnwood for my linseed. I have a 14.3 gypsy cob who weighs 550k and a 16.2 clydesdale who weighs 700 kilo and they get a coffee mug twice a day. I add this to Just Grass, Green Gold and a bit of speedibeet and they do very well on this. I also feed a coffee mug twice a day of black sunflower seeds for their feet and coat.

Yikes!

I feed my elderly Arab a coffee cup (around 125g) and my younger, 16.1, draft horse a bit less than that.

I only feed them when they come in every night (the Arab chooses to come in from August to May and younger horse Nov - May) as they don't need any feed in spring/summer.

Even when I was feeding more I have never bought more than two bags a year.

Buy basic and buy the whole seeds and a small coffee grinder.

Grind one cup of seeds daily and feed. Takes only a minute to grind and gives you the benegit of all the Omega Oils for both coat and joints.

Unprocessed is the cheapest way to buy.

As it is a feedstuff component rather than a mineral or herbal supplement, I don't think that it is expensive if you consider that it has so many good nutrients, so you can give the horse less of the other compound feedstuffs, my boy [15.00] did very well on Speedy beet and 100gm linseed from September to October, in light work plus mins and vits, the total costs worked out less than Calm and Condition for example.
