Yesterday I started making linseed jelly so it had nearly 24 hours of soaking and I have since had it on the stove, boiled up and then simmering for the last 3 hrs on and off...

I think it's ready... :-) It's cooling off now, my only concern is how much. I've read (in my very old PC manual!!) to feed 1/4 -1/2 lb per horse twice a week. I have cooked up 1/2 lb for two and it just looks such a lot.

Should I give it them all tonight, or for their first time as jelly should I build it up gradually? Also can it keep in the fridge for a few days?

Answers/advice ASAP please as hungry horses want their supper and I want to go to bed!!
thanks

Given up guessing i'm going to give half tonight and maybe half in the morning?...if anyone see's this later on I'd still be interested to know.

thanks

If you want to feed linseed I think the easiest thing to do is feed this- web page

I give my horses about a cupfull of that (soaked for about 2 mins it turns into jelly) every 3 days, its only about a million times easier than making your own. The person that you speak to from that site was also helpfull (although that was a year or so ago so might be different)

Hi Vicki

Thanks for the link, it's the same one you mentioned a few weeks ago. I liked the look of their stuff and went to my local stockist but they had ran out...so I just thought I'd try making some, as I had the seeds in the cupboard.

I managed not to burn the pan but it is a bit of a faff. If I can't get any simple sol's next time I go to the saddlery, I might try cooking some on my log burner in a cast iron pan thus saving the elecy bill?!

Either way they both seamed very please with their supper tonight, mind you it is getting cooler outside!
