feeding my mare and gelding linseed oil, have been for about 2 weeks. gelding is normal but mare seems full of life! could it be making her hyper or is she maybe juat feeling good from it?

Bumping.

I was thinking of trying Micronized linseed but his owner reckons it made him spooky and hyper when she tried it 10 years ago, can it? or was it the hunting :)

This post has given me serious food for thought. I have been feeding micronized linseed for a while now and my mare has become really spooky and nervous. I think I will stop feeding it and see if she alters.

Would be interested if anyone else has any experience of this.

I put my mare on it just before Christmas and by the end of January she was practically unrideable in the arena (not so bad out hacking in straight lines!) so I cut it right down and she calmed down again. She is now on a small amount and seems okay, but I will monitor her carefully over the winter as I dislike doing high speed pirouettes when they are not planned ;)

Hi Rowreach thanks for your post. Linseed was the last thing that I would have thought would make them silly. I use it to keep weight on her but will now cut it out altogether. She is have Spillers Cool Fibre and Top Spec Cool nuts so will wait to see the difference.

Its strange how different things affect different horses.
