I have read that micronised linseed is good for muscle wastage and weight loss, which may help dear old Harry. I also have a welsh B that suffers from mild sweet itch which is said to improve it.

Anyone use it? Any tips? Als where is the cheapest place to buy it? Also, which one is best, micronised, boiled etc??

I use micronised linseed. My old boy has never looked as good as he does at the mo. You can get a big sack from Charnwood Milling or I buy from Ebay - my trimmers sell 7kg bags on Ebay.

I also feed Copra, brewer's yeast, magnesium oxide, yea-sacc and seaweed. All of which I mix at home in little plastic tubs at the weekend.

Buying linseed in micronised form is the easiest way to deal with it rather than boiling it yourself. There is a belief that linseed oil has less value than the micronised form.

I buy my supply of micronised linseed from the 'Metabolic Horse Company' - type it in to google and it will take you straight to it

Very reasonable and she stocks other useful supplements too. I buy a few of my supplements from her and the p+p is very good too.

I use it to aid my laminitic/insulin resistant mare who has metabolism problems as it is also packed with nutrients. She only gets a teaspoon in each feed (1 norn and night) and you can see the difference just in her coat. It's a good value product to help with weight gain and horses seem to prefer it over the taste of oil

Both my youngsters have micronised linseed from Charnwood. I buy the 25kg sacks as it's the most economical way.

Brilliant stuff

What Oberon said

The best brand is the Charnwood. Simple Systems always seemed stale and dark to me and was in any case almost 60% more expensive.

I have a big gelding who loses condtion quickly over the winter - he is getting a good 500gr scoop in each feed. All my guys look marvelous on it.
