I was so very angry this morning to see the pic in The Daily Mail showing a lion and a tiger riding on the back of a terrified pony (look at how his lips are tight and his mouth open if you doubt me) that I have emailed the Chinese Embassy to say so.
Please if this offends you as much as it does me, do the same. it only takes a few minutes to compose a letter telling them how this barbarity demeans their country in the eyes of the rest of the world.
I don't know if it will do any good but the Chinese do take their image fairly seriously, if it stops this happening to those poor ponies, then great.
It made me feel sick..

China - should we be suprised???

Sorry - I'm not racist, but practically everything this country does in terms of entertainment at the expense of the animal sickens me!

In a country which has a specific word meaning 'to kill girl baby by drowning', and where dogs are routinely boiled alive, this is nothing. Human life is cheap in China, let alone animal life. It is horrendous to us, but I suppose we don't live in extreme poverty. I am always wary of judging another country by our own standards, and as Chinese animal suffering goes, the bears are still having the worst of it. And the dogs.

Horrid. Yet I am surprised by one of the contradictions in the article - it implies that feeding live prey to the tigers is wrong, yet also says that the charity aims to teach them to hunt and release them - surely you can't have it both ways?

This is undoubtedly appalling as most circus animal acts are, however I don't think the pony is overly terrified and the lion thankfully seems to ride light. This is just a ridiculous variation on poodles riding circus horses in this country. I didn't read the article but natural prey animals and their predators can get along reasonably well if socialised together. Our Wolfhound would happily kill any rabbit it met, yet our friends Wolfhound lived with a pet rabbit.
I think before we throw too many stones .... we should have a good long look at our own countries Legislation especially in the light of Amersham.
All the same abhorant

Made my stomach curdle to see that.

Oddly enough, there is an ad on US television at the moment showing a monkey in cowboy gear riding a Border Collie. Made me feel more than a little uneasy to see such an unnatural behavioural display.

Please don't open the link if offended by primates in brash Texan outerwear

I disagree...I think the pony looks very frightened! Its jaw is so firmly clamped shut, its chin is rigid and its eyes wide...compare that to a pony that is relaxed in its job!! I think we can safely say that pony does NOT want that animal on its back

My comments are repetitive I know but all I can say on the matter is that it is an appalling article about an appalling act which is being conducted by appalling people!
Animal and child cruelty will never cease to stop until the issues surrounding poverty, standards of morals and education are addressed. Until then it is a little like bashing one's head against a wall. As such a mere ripple caused by outraged individuals is not enough to create the tidal wave that is needed to put an end to worldwide suffering for man and beast alike.

I think that what is worse than the actual act of the lion riding the pony is how they trained both of them to do it. It doesn't bear thinking about.

The race is compassionless, that is clear from their human rights records, if nothing else. God help any animals in that country.

You honestly think that the whole Chinese 'race' is compassionless?

Jeez.............don't quite know what to say.
