I have just heard that Lionel died earlier today. What a terrific guy! He was teaching this morning, of that I am not surprised bless him. He was a true horseman right through to his last breath.

It was just all over my FB but I wasn't able to find anything which confirmed, so didn't post.
Very sad news indeed. He was a childhood hero of mine, and we got my first pony from him (so I was told anyway!)

A true gent and a wonderful sportsman.
R.I.P. Lionel

Oh no! So sorry and so sad for his family and friends ... Used to love watching him ride Jungle Bunny years ago ...

RIP Lionel.

How incredibly sad, such an unaffected, genuine and down to earth man. He inspired me as a child as he was the only showjumper who wore his harness done up on his hat - he really impressed me and I could never work out why his contemporaries didn't follow suit! I also loved his FB page which was so unstarry. Such a shame to hear this sad news. RIP....

RIP LD...............I will never forget our lessons or the fabulous little grey horse you sold me, I can think of many good horsey people but you were just so different.

Very sad, I remember him jumping Jungle bunny many years ago now. I also read his book although I cant remember what it was called now. He had a very bad accident when jumping and amost died, which was why he always rode with his hat harness done up.

memories of the time i spent working for you, of the horses, the travelling, the shows the demos and the ups and downs never a dull moment
goodbye boss, may you and tarzan now reunite and conquer the heavens
