Lip chains vs twitches

For you read the posts under hat thread, you will realise that I don't ride in rollkur (but I can't blame you; there were lots of pages!) I just ride deeper and rounder than most people. You may also understand the way I ride and treat horses a little better as well. :)

Just to add, I have not had this horse long, but with help from my mum, he is slowly progressing and I can now use a headcollar for basic handling and leading. I now use a chiffney for turning out and at showed, but for other stuff it now just a headcollar or a stallion chain over other nose.

i would not use a lip chain due to the potential it has to do serious damage, and i would not use a twitch on a daily basis either. i would use a skin twitch over anything else as the release is instant and it can only be maintained for a limited period of time.

IMO if you are using either on a daily basis for routine events you need to address the basic handling of you horse as something is wrong

This... sort out the handling issues! I know plenty of stallions which are well behaved, like any horse, there's never an excuse for a horse who won't even behave to be led / groomed / bathed etc.

I have used a similar kind of gum twitch when working on a stud. But a rope instead if a chain.. tbh I wouldnt dream of using a chain on such delicate skin. Ouch.
However when used with a smallish piece of rope, applied on and off, not constantly works very well.

^^ This - I have one made of rope - it's made by Shires - I think they are called an 'Indian twitch'. We used it when my WB had to be freezemarked for LOU. I actually prefer this to a twitch - I think it is more humane. I wouldn't like to use a chain.

How's the riding of this horse coming op? (I'm assuming this was the stallion that was a slug to ride)
