Just pondering a turnout question for showing; if using a double bridle but using a flat leather curb ‘chain’ instead of an actual chain (horse does not like chain type) do I still need to use a chin strap to be correct?

Yes but not everyone does - I didn’t used to on my show hack as his head was quite small and it made the bridle too busy.
