Hello!

My mare was diagnosed with a lipoma on her right gluteal last December. It has started to get bigger so have called the vet out to see her again. I have tried google and can't find much out about it.

Does anybody have any experience with these? Do you think they will have to remove it and is there any chance of it now being cancerous?

Thanks for any help!

Kerry

I may be wrong but I think lipoma is benign. I have been looking into various lumps as my mare has been recently diagnosed with a malignant lymphoma.

She is in great health at the moment and still eventing. Has had lumps for about a year and they don't bother her at all. She has about 5 in total on her face and legs - they are getting bigger but only slowly. Vet says I shouldn't worry too much about size of lumps, it is a worse sign if they are appearining in more places.

We have been told that her life expectancy is another couple of years (which doesn't bear thinking about). She will become ill at some point when the cancer gets into her organs - it will probably present as anaemia or recurrent colic.

When that happens I'll have her PTS before she gets too poorly. Trying to brace myself for the decision!
