has anyone been to one of these sales? Are they any good?
Seem to have alot of venues and stock. Does anyone know if it is a saddlery or what company it is to buy all this stuff?

Yes I went a couple of years ago- they are very good if you want things like Ariat Boots etc at a fairly good price or bulk yard equipment etc, I also got a Euro-Star show jacket at a gd price too- they have loads and loads of stuff there, but I think it is a case of rummaging for what you are looking for!.

It is run by Holmestead Saddlery who have shops in Ireland and Northern Ireland.

I went to one at uttoxeter race course the other year, most of it was un named stuff, the ariat boots were all huge sizes etc nothing wildly exciting all i bought was a saddle cover!! I wouldnt bother going again tbh

We went to one in York a few years ago, were dead excited but dead dissapointed when we finally got in. There were some great bargains but in odd sizes. Wouldnt go again unless on my doorstep.

its mainly odd sizes, lots of Stubben seconds, but beware in many cases the bridles are made up of odd pieces so the cheek pieces are different, the nosebands are wrong etc. Stirrup leathers that are paired up are different sizes. Lots of rubbish and tat. All the Ariat boots were in huge sizes. They buy up liquidating stock from saddleries and receivers and sell it on.

Have been to the one in LEicester a few times, the rugs they had were unbranded and as a new very poor horse owner at the time i bought a stable rug that said christmas on all the straps 9 years on the rug is still going strong and is one of the most hardy i have ever bought!
Also had a few jackets, girths, it is always a bit of a jumble sale and a case of just going through things to find what you need. Generally found the branded bits are in odd sizes lots of xxfull and tiny pony and not much inbetween.
Worth a look if it isnt far away from you but wouldnt drive far out my way to go.

I have been to the one at a hotel on the A46, I went especially to get some bargin Ariat Devon pro boots advertised as 1000s of pairs at less than half price for sale so got there early, they had one pair in mens size 12 that wernt even Devon pro, I think they just put things like that in the advert to draw people in. But they do have very cheap blue and white checked stable rugs that last for years, but take your own tape measure sometimes the sizes are wrongly labled.

it would appear i was lucky then??

I got some ariat devon pro boots, size 4, a stubben bridle that all matched (i did double check first) a saddle for a horse i was selling with tack, loads of socks, 4 summer sheets priced at £10 each, and a waterproof jacket for £15.

My BF got a pair of ariat boots - the all terrain waterproof ones in his size too.

I would go again!
