Listening to music while riding

Pointless thread really but basically back when I had merlin I would ride along and always pass these two girls who had speakers strapped to one of their horses saddles and were blasting very loud very electronic music as they thundered past. A) they would gallop past which was not fun in the early days when merlin was a green flighty wee pony and B) I'm sure it can't have been too fun for the ponies to have this din playing?

Am I just being boring or..?;)
 
I listen to music while riding, I have a mini speaker as well because that way I can hear what's going on around me so if horse suddenly spooks I know why. Plus i'm scared that if I fall off i'll get strangled by earphones :o But I keep my music relatively quiet, so that I can hear it clearly but you wouldn't be able to if you were riding past :) It seems to relax me and horse more and she works better because of it :) I like it :)
 
I love music when I ride. With my old horse I would school with my i-pod on most of the time. I found it made me relax more and in turn would make him relax and we would produce some of our best work that way. He never minded the sound of the music and he wasn't a spooky horse so having dulled hearing wasn't an issue while on him.
My horse now is a different kettle of fish, much sharper and very spooky..the world is full of monsters. She is very reactive to noise and will not relax if I have my music on. I could play it on a cd player,as I would think she would be ok with this as we play music on the yard, but I wouldn't subject others to my music taste. But I do think it makes me ride better.
 
I listen to music too.... it drowns out the constant chattering of my teenage daughter.... i tuck the phone in my bra so its not too loud. My mare seems to like it too!
 
I sometimes took my mp3 player on hacks with me and just put one earplug in and played it fairly quiet so I could still hear what was going on in my surrondings. I quite like listening to music while hacking on my own as it keeps me company - and I like to sing when I'm on my own... badly! ;):D
 
I would never blast out the type of music they were but if I'm schooling or hacking ill listen to something with earphones occasionally. Although merlin did love classical music:D he used to sway to it while i mucked out
 
I like using time on my own (riding, running etc) to think lots...and listen to the birds :)

I did discover that my pony liked Nirvana when I had a tape playing whilst I plaited her up for a show. Switched it to the radio and she was distinctly unimpressed!
 
I will play various music at various levels of loudness whilst I ride to acclimitise my ponies to noise around them for shows. I dont tend to bother with the racehorses as they have all been piped intovthe winners enclosure by bagpipes and if you can stand that din you can survive anything!
 
I don't like music while hacking its nice to listern to the horse moving and the enviroment around you but it's fun in the school sometimes.
