Lister clipper blades - faulty?

I have just paid over £40 for a new pair of bladers for my Lister clippers. They came with metal "runners" instead of the plastic ones that they used to have. The saddlery explained that they wear better.

When using them, they did not cut as well as I was used to, but it was a new horse and I put it down to his coat. Then they got hot. Then they hardly cut at all.

I showed them to my OH, who is an engineer, and he measured them with a micrometer and found that the metal runners were marginally too tight to run in the grooves in the clipper head. He ground them down for me and the difference when I used them next was like chalk and cheese.

It's unlikely that this problem is restricted to one pair, more likely a whole batch. So I believe that there may be Lister clipper blades being sold that are not quite right (though you will never spot it by eye). If you have the same trouble as I did and don't have a resident engineer to fix them, then take them back to the shop and take a copy of this post with you as evidence if it will help.
