I got these in a package deal with my Lister Star clippers, and when I first used them actually really liked them. On the "max" setting, the length of coat left matched the Star clipper's exactly, so made for a really good tool to clean up around trim lines etc.

Then something happened (don't know what), and the trimmers never worked as well again. They feel underpowered and frequently jam, particularly on the "max" setting, better on the "min" setting - but then the trimmer clips much closer than the clipper, so no good for cleaning up clip lines. Even when not jamming, the trimmers feel much less powerful than I remember from first trying them.

I'm trying to figure out if there's something I can do to get back full performance, or whether it's some sort of fundamental flaw in the design (but then, why did they work great initially?)
Obviously, my first attempt was to make sure the trimmers were fully charged, and to get the blades sharpened (done by shear ease, so would assume they were done properly). I've read and re-read the instructions for installing the blades, and I'm sure I'm doing it the way the instructions indicate, making sure there's a 0.5mm-1mm offset between the tooth edges. None of this has really made much of a difference.

Has anyone managed to bring their Legato trimmers back to life? Maybe a new battery is needed? Or should I try sharpening the blades again? Could the trimmer itself need servicing (do they need servicing the same as bigger clippers?). Or would you judge it a lost cause?

I'm half hoping there's something simple and fixable wrong with the blade tensioning/max-min setting that explains the poor performance on the max setting, but I've no idea what that might be.

IMHO, the Legato can be a total "Pain in the arse". Blade sharpening correctly is imperative and the other problem lies in the fact that the tension on the blades is not easily adjustable by the end user. Inside the legato is a spring, which is held at both sides by four screws. The back two are tight, the forward two screw in and can adjust tension. Often the small plastic posts can snap inside, the other thing that happens is that one of the batteries parts company with the PCB and causes problems. I would be inclined to pop them in the post to Lister c/w blades.
