A friend at my field has real trouble keeping her pony exercised in the Winter since ours live out 24/7 and we have no lights or school. I recently discovered that Monty is good to lead from since I now have no sharer so need to keep both mine fit.

I agreed to try taking George out once a week before work with Monty. They were very good!!! Thing is..............George = 12.2hh Monty = 17hh

Sorry about quality of pics but they were after I rode and on my phone.

We went for a trot and George's legs were going a million miles an hour!!

We must have looked very funny. George was trying to nip Monty's face but luckily he couldn't reach.

PS very pleased with how Monty is doing weight wise considering he's 29yo!! Fingers crossed he stays that way.

LOL, this reminds me of when I was working at an event yard, we had a HOY's games pony who was ace to hack out, so I used to ride the games pony (all 11hh of him), and lead either 1 or 2 event horses (well over 16.2hh)!!! It was the only way for 2 people to exercise 30 horses in a day!!!!! I Used to get some very funny looks off ppl!!!!!!

Lovely and as you say great way to keep them fit. I do the same with mine, though at 15.1 and 16.2 they are not that uneven. I also loose school mine at the same time - after the initial couple of minutes cantering round playing they settle and work nicely on a circle - I call them my hairy circus horses.

Your chap looks great for his age too.

Thanks guys

Monty is always a subject of debate since he is passported at 23 (but by all accounts the vet didn't look at him very well, tried to passport him as a 16hh black mare?!) and two EDTs and a vet have aged him over 30. We picked 27 two years ago since it was in the middle!! God knows how old he really is!! He looks better than he ever has this time of year.

I also is deceptively big. He is VERY narrow with massive high withers. It's like sitting on a rasher of bacon! No-one realises how big he is until they get on him.

Bless George. It's so funny since his owner is a 5'10 middle-aged woman. She rides him since her children outgrew him and lost interest. She gets funny looks but she loves him dearly!

Whereabouts do you go riding? Well, not whereabouts in the country but like on roads or bridleways or farm tracks or fields?
It's just I'd like to ride and lead my old pony out but we have country lanes everywhere we want to go round here. They are fairly quiet but if you meet anything it is quite narrow in places.

Lovely pics!
My friend recently hacked her horses to new field several miles away. She rode her 17hh heavy hunter and led her skewbald miniature shetland, who apparently kept up as they cantered up a long track!

We are in a national trust estate in West London so the lane is closed to vehicles. I do also go out on the quieter roads. The drivers here are not very good when it comes to horses but luckily my two are very well behaved!
