Horses. Hm. Who on earth would have horses....

LC was careering round the field yesterday, fly bucking.

And he wasn't on Bute because he wouldn't take it.

Horses!

This is the day I got the invoice from the vets.

Ho hum.

Ah well, at least he's happy :D So is D1 :D

We've found he'll take Bute if there is a good dash of apple juice in his feed as well :D. Vet however has said try him for a week without and see how he goes. He definately has to live out though, 24/7/365.

Sounds like LC is pretty happy, even if we bite our nails whilst they tear around the fields!

May I ask MrsM what was his diagnosis, I have not been on really the last few days except to post a question myself which is the only one I looked at, so think I missed your post...

Bloomin' horses! My horse managed to go from so lame that he could hardly trot to doing the most fantastically sound trot-up ever in one morning, just the vet arrived... Glad he's feeling well!

Sacroilliac joint - a number of areas of uptake on the right wing.

Neurological issue - but what we don't know. Some spondylosis (sp!) on 14th and 15th thorasic vertebra, which may or may not be of clinical significance. There's something else as well, but D1 has just bobbed off with the report.

So, there's pain, there's 'something' neurological, there's sacroiliac. What is causing which... we don't know for sure! The Bute trial showed an improvement on forward movement, on both reins, but increased the hind toe drag.

In other words, no idea. He's confused the best there is.

Definately has to be out in a field though. Standing in a stable will probably increase the pain/stifness.

Oh my, so still a bit of a mystery :(
Glad that he feels well enough to run around though :)

Thank you :)

D1 says three Bute a day isn't making a difference, so if we want to high dose and bring him down off it we would have to drown it in a pint of apple juice! So, will stick with the no Bute route and see how he goes. Will report back to vet in a week's time :)

Bloomin things ( I am touching wood like mad, dont wont to jinx things )

My old boy went from being minutes from being PTS, to now be nearly at the top of a herd of 22 horses!!!!!!, just the will to live and a little bit of stubbourness does the power of good LOL

Hope he continues to feel well

I tried Boswellia after recommendations from on here. D went to her retirement home before I had a chance to see if it really worked but well worth googling it to see what others have said about it.

Well that's certainly good news for the moment. Fingers crossed it continues. I can certainly recommend magnets and mixing bute with drinking chocolate in a syringe. As the vet said, "You can only not give them chocolate if you're planning on racing".

Ta all :D

When we get moved... supposedly this weekend, but there's been a bit of a hiccup with the field (we await the outcome of that one! Ho hum)... We'll try the magnets and the various options.

Vet said D1 could ride again if he's feeling that well, but I'd rather wait and see how we go. Once we get to the field, D1 and hop on bareback in the field and see how he goes. Want to keep it all low key and stress free for both of them :). D1 has others to ride, which I know isn't the same as riding one's own, but rather take it slowly than rush in any way.

Eeh, isn't life a hoot ;) :D

Give him Danillon which is better - and he'll lick it straight from your hand :)

Yup :). D1 has asked for Danilon and I've asked the vet if I can pick some up, and that's how we got into the 'try him without for a week given that he's fly bucking round the field on no painkillers at all'.

We've got Milk Thistle in his feed to try and protect his liver due to the levels of Bute he's been on lately. We're thinking that the level of Bute we can give long term is not going to make a difference to the pain level (hm, what pain given the leaping around the field!), as a difference was noted when he was on over 4mg a day (the Bute trial whilst at the vets).

Thank you for the suggestion though, 'tis appreciated :)
