had the honour and luck of seeing this little chap born yesterday
had a call from my friend at 5.30pm to say they thought mare was possibly going into labour and could i come and have a look and see what i thought
( false alarm 2 weeks ago) i live 5 mins max from yard so i jumped in car and as i pulled into the track phone went again, friend telling me mares waters had just gone!!
10 minutes later and little chap was born to a rather surprised audience, we were preparing ourselves for a few hours of waiting but mare had other ideas lol she certainly had her own style, rolling on her back at one point with her little stumpy mini legs waving in the air
starting to drizzle and the wind get up and mare was outside so i had the task of wrapping foal in a towel and carrying him into the field shelter followed by a very concerned mum wondering what i was doing with her baby, surprising how heavy even a mini foal is !!
Vet has been out today and given the little chap the once over and all is good,
Have to say i feel rather privileged to have seen the birth, seen plenty on video and such but never been part of a real live one lol, no plans on putting my girl in foal though, the worry over this little chap was enough for me
