Thanks for the advice - especially those that said the trailer would be fine. I spent half an hour chipping the sheet ice off the speed bump at the end of our drive that had seen me shoot out of the end and straight into the neighbour's hedge a few hours earlier. Then added salt to the mess, gave pony a warm shower on the stinky bits of brown pee that he had laid in, and daughter then hair dried him while I hitched up.

Got to the church with a good 15 mins to spare, stood in the vestibule to warm him up (he still hummed a tad) whilst bribing with carrots, and then it was his cue. Daughter led him down while I made an extremely bad video.

He is well behaved - as long as I keep the carrots coming :)

He is a little s*d at home, he escaped from being bathed and tanked off round our garden, when I went to grab him he tried to double barrel me. Mind you I guess I wouldn't want to be bathed in -2 temperatures! It was warm water and only on the stinkiest bits we washed, before you all call the RSPCA!
 
We've been doing this for about 8 years now, but the first pony we did it with got frightened by the feedback on the microphone, and did what horses do when worried - evacuate the bowels!

Luckily my friend was with us that year, and she grabbed his long thick tail and shoved it between his legs, managing to catch most of it like a nappy until we managed to get outside. We fell about laughing and forgot they could probably hear us inside but as we keep getting asked back (who else would be mad enough to do it on xmas eve!) I guess they didn't mind.
 
That was brilliant, doubt there was a dry eye in the house :) I think it is very noble of you to give up your time on christmas eve, not many would do that. :)
 
My husband thinks I am just completely barking mad, but thanks for the compliment - I could do without going as we stay for a second service to fit everyone in so we are there for 2.5 hours in all. I am hopelessly disorganised and should be wrapping last minute presents, but it does make Christmas eve rather special and the children love it! There is always one bright spark that says in a stage whisper "But that's not a donkey, that's a pony"
 
That has to be the single most touching thing I have seen this Christmas.

I seem to have something in my eye, must fetch a tissue...
