I realised yesterday after schooling my horse around and over jumps that I'd forgotten to tighten the girth at all. It was just sitting there under her belly with an inch or so of fresh air between her and it. It must have been so annoying for her!
I wish I could say its the only time it's happened, but it's not!

Anyone else have any little stupid moments to share or am I just.....'special'? :)

Oh yes, many!

Last one was trying to kick a gate shut whilst mounted. Que foot getting stuck in the gate as horse helpfully moved forward. Stirrup pinged off and i ended up with a cracking bruise for my stupidity. Duh

Yes :D

Ive been to get my horse out of the field, put a headcollar on him, and walked across the field holding the leadrope, come out of the gate, horse turning round while I close and lock the gate, and set off up the lane with him.

Then realised I hadnt clipped the rope to the headcollar :o

Just before going home from the farm I did a little checklist in my head, muck out - check, water - check, hay - check, feed - check, uummmmmmm there's something missing here - oh yes my horse is still in the field haha!!! duh :D

I went to my first jumping lesson for about a year the other day, the first time I had jumped more than a little log out hacking for 8 months after my boy being on box rest for 5 months. Spent hours making sure everything was perfect, tacked him up, put him on the trailer for the 5 minute journey to my instructor. Arrived very nervous, sorted myself out got M off the trailer only to realise I'd put his saddle on but not his bridle!

Luckily he's a very good boy and is just in a snaffle (my other one has a very bespoke contraption due to his combination of sheer strength, excitement and very big lips prone to splitting!) so I could borrow a bridle from one of the liveries.

Hopped on, had a fab 30 mintues getting back into the swing of it which I thoroughly enjoyed, but with its fair share of rustiness and hairy moments as you'd expect for the first time in months. At the end, went to loosen my girth, only to find it was on the first hole both sides! How my saddle stayed put I'll never know!

I put the whole day's antics down to extreme nerves. I'd never take the pressure of the Olympics!

haha have done just the same. not sure if my horse is so well trained and good or if he is also a 'duh' brain for not realising either!

annagain - complete thread hijack but was wondering exactly what bespoke contraption you use on your excitable one? :o my little angel turns into a devil out hunting and sounds very similar - excited, incredibly strong (pulling down and forwards usually), (and brain dead). She too also has big lips (and a wide mouth- 5.75inch bits) with lips prone to splitting and so far I havent found anything that I can stop her in at all and everything seems to split her lips :(.
